Semifinal 2 Leg 1 of Indian Super League 5, held on Mar 09 ,saw the FC Goa play against Mumbai City FC.

FC Goa stunned Mumbai with a 5-1 win over them in the first leg of the semifinal at the Mumbai Football Arena. This result almost confirmed Goa’s spot in finals as they go into the second leg with a four-goal advantage, which leaves the Mumbai with a mountain to climb. FC Goa had 57% possession than Mumbai City’s 43%.

Goa headed into the break with a 2-1 lead

Mumbai City FC won the toss and chose their side. The first shot of the game went to the hosts as Issoko took a shot from outside the box, but his shot bounced just in front of the keeper and the latter pushed the ball out for a corner. In the 20th minute, the hosts drew the first blood as Issoko sent a lovely ball towards the far post, which found Bastos, and the latter slotted the ball into the back of the net. In the 24th minute, Seriton played a pass to Bedia outside the box and the latter tried to curl the ball into the far post, but the keeper made an easy save in the end. In the 31st minute, Goa scored an equalizer, which was also their 150th goal in ISL and the first team to do so. Corominas fired a shot towards the target, which forced a block from the keeper, but the rebound ball found Jackichand as the latter smashed the ball into the back of the net to bring his team back on level terms. In the 39th minute, Goa took a 2-1, lead as Brandon took a corner from the right, which went at the near post where Mourtada slotted the ball into the back of the net with a perfect header. At the stroke of the half time, the rebound ball found Sougou and the latter fired a shot towards the goal from the middle, but the keeper made a terrific save by stretching his legs. In the stoppage time, Mumbai almost scored an equalizer, but the goal was disallowed as the linesman called it an offside. Finally, Goa went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

As the second half started in the 51st minute, Goa doubled their lead as Jackichand chipped in a lovely cross towards the far post where Corominas was unmarked and the latter headed it into the back of the net to which was his 16th goal of the season. Seven minutes later Goa took a 4-1 lead as Brandon whipped in a ball from the middle, which found the head of Mourtada who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to score his second goal of the night. In the 74th minute, Mirabaje tried to curl the ball towards the target from a free kick, but the keeper saved it easily by outstretching his left hand. In the same minute, a corner from the near post was flicked towards the far post where Goian tried to head the ball into the net, but it bruised his head and went out of play. In the 82nd minute, Goa scored their fifth goal as Boumous played a brilliant through ball to Brandon and the latter fired his shot into the back of the net past the keeper. Finally, Goa won the game by 5-1 and almost confirmed their seal in the final with a sensational performance.
