ISL-SEASON 5-SEMIFINAL-1-LEG-1-BENGALURU FC VS NORTH EAST UNITED FC
Semifinal 1 Leg 1 of Indian Super League 5, held on Mar 07 ,saw the Bengaluru FC play against North East United FC.
North East United FC edged Bengaluru FC by 2-1 in dying seconds at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Guwahati. This was their first ever win over Bengaluru FC in ISL and it was their first ever semifinal appearance in ISL. This helps them to take a 1-goal advantage into the second leg in Bengaluru. North East United FC had 52% possession than Bengaluru’s 48%.
North East took a 1-goal lead at the break
North East United FC won the toss and chose their side. In the initial minutes, the hosts saw more of the possession and played better football than Bengaluru FC. In the 20th minute, the hosts took the lead through Tlang’s stunning goal. Ogbeche sent an inch-perfect cross to Tlang on the right and the latter curled the ball into the far post, which went into the back of the net. In the 24th minute Dimas fired, a shot towards the goal from outside the box and the keeper came quickly off his line, but did not get a proper hold on it. However, Miku tried to attack the loose ball, but before he went, the keeper managed to push it away from danger. In the 38th, minute a corner from the right found Miku and the latter chested it down before blasting his shot over the bar. In the stoppage time, Ogbeche was subbed off after picking up an injury. Finally, North East entered the break with a one-goal lead.
Advantage for North East after the first leg after a late drama
As the second half started, the hosts dealt another big blow as Rowllin was subbed off with Nikhil. Both the sides played most part of the half in the midfield. In the 66th minute, a clearance from the corner fell into the path of Xisco and the latter fired a shot towards the target, but it took a deflection and went wide of the goal. In the 70th minute Gallego chipped in a lovely ball over the defense to Mascia and the latter fired a shot towards the goal, but the keeper saved his shot easily as it lacked enough power. In the 82nd minute Bengaluru scored an equalizer through super sub Xisco. Miku sets Sunil free on the left and squared the ball to Xisco from the byline who easily tapped the ball into the back of the net. In the stoppage time, the hosts won a penalty after Khabra brought down Mascia inside the box and the latter stepped in to take the spot. Mascia calmly blasted his shot into the back of the net to give his side a first win over Bengaluru in ISL. This helped the hosts to take a 1-goal lead into the second leg, but Bengaluru have an advantage of an away goal.
