Match 87 of Indian Super League 5, held on Feb 28 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC play against FC Goa.

FC Goa picked up a narrow 1-0 win against Chennaiyin FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. This win helped Goa to seal the second spot in the league table, while the defending champions finished their season at the bottom of the league table. FC Goa had 56% possession than Chennai’s 44%.

FC Goa headed into the break with a 1-0 lead

FC Goa won the toss and chose their side. The home side enjoyed more possession in the initial 10 minutes but did not trouble the backline of Chennaiyin FC. In the 13th minute, Jeje and Thapa played one-two among them before the latter fired a shot towards the goal, but the keeper saved it easily as it went straight into the hands of him. In the 19th minute, Jackichand played a lovely pass to Corominas outside the box, but the latter’s shot towards the goal went straight into the hands of the keeper. In the 26th minute, the home side drew the first blood after Ahmed played a lovely through ball to Jackichand on the right who squared it to Corominas inside the box. Corominas took a touch before slotting the ball into the back of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead. At the stroke of the half time Thapa pounced on to a loose ball from Rodrigues before unleashing a shot towards the target, but Mourtada made a terrific tackle and sent it away for a corner. Finally, Goa headed into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Goa edge Chennai to seal the 2nd spot in the league table

As the second half started in the 49th minute Thapa whipped in a ball into the path of Mailson and the latter headed it towards the goal, but it bounced and went into the path of Jeje, However, Jeje’s header went off target. In the 68th minute, Lenny’s clearance fell into the path of Christopher inside the box and the latter fired a shot towards the target, but his shot went wide of the target. In the 77th minute Jackichand played, a lovely pass to Corominas and the latter tried to slot the ball into the far post but missed his shot completely. Finally, Goa won the game by 1-0 against the defending champions and ended their league stage as the second best team in the table.
