Match 84 of Indian Super League 5, held on Feb 23 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC play against Jamshedpur FC.

Chennaiyin FC held Jamshedpur to a goalless draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. This draw-ended Jamshedpur’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals and helped North East United to qualify for the playoffs. Both the teams had an equal possession of 50%.

Goalless Half

Jamshedpur FC won the toss and chose their side. Both the sides made a steady start to the game by playing long balls, but they lacked enough precision. In the 21st minute Jeje played, the ball to Vineeth from the right and the latter fired a shot straight into the hands of the keeper. In the 31st minute, Cidoncha sent a superb cross which found the head of Mario Arques and the latter headed it towards the goal, but the keeper made a terrific save to deny a goal for the visitors. In the 35th minute Farukh got a long ball from the backline and squared the ball to Cidoncha before the latter fired a shot towards the target, but the keeper made a good save in the end. At the stroke of the half time, Issac’s shot from the free kick found the head of Herd in the box, but the latter’s header went just above the bar. Finally, both the sides entered the break without breaking the deadlock.

Goalless Draw ends Jamshedpur’s qualification hopes

As the second half started in the 55th minute, the officials turned down Jamshedpur’s shout for a penalty kick after they seemed to have hit Issac’s hand inside the box from a free kick. A couple of minutes later Thapa played a through pass to Jeje and the latter fired his shot straight into the hands of the keeper. In the next minute, the backline played a long ball to Cidoncha on the right and the latter fired a shot towards the target, but the keeper saved his shot easily. In the 83rd, minute Carlos took a free kick from outside the box and unleashed a shot towards the goal, but the keeper saved it easily as it was straight at him. In the 89th minute, a goal was disallowed for the visitors after the linesman found Soosairaj on offside. Finally both the teams settled for a goalless draw and end to Jamshedpur’s hopes of booking a spot in the semifinals.
