Match 62 of Indian Super League 5, held on Jan 27 ,saw the Mumbai City FC play against Bengaluru FC.

A spectacular show from Mumbai helped them to defeat Bengaluru FC by 1-0 at Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai. This win helped them to end Bengaluru’s unbeaten run in this season and replaced them from the summit of the table. Bengaluru FC had 55% possession than Mumbai City’s 45%.

Mumbai entered the break with a 1-0 lead

Bengaluru FC won the toss and chose their side. Both the sides started to attack from the word go and the hosts played over Bengaluru’s backline with long passes and the visitors played with short passes in the midfield. In the 16th minute, Rahul chipped in a good ball to Xisco inside the box and the latter’s shot was easily punched away from the keeper as he failed to kick it properly. A couple of minutes later Xisco sent a ball to Udanta at the edge of the box who then sent a cross to Rahul, but the latter’s shot went off the target though he was clear in front of the goal. Both the sides played most of the time in the midfield with fewer attacks. In the 29th minute, the host broke the deadlock on courtesy of their skipper Machado. Bastos played a lovely through ball to Machado, he was one-on-one with the keeper, and the latter calmly slotted the ball into the post past the wrong-footed keeper. From then the hosts started to play a defensive game and did not allow Bengaluru to get past their backline. In the 43rd minute, Rahul sent a delightful cross to Juanan inside the box, but the latter could not keep his shot on target. Finally, the hosts entered the break with a 1-0 lead.

As the second half started in the 49th minute Sougou fired a shot from a distance towards the target, but the keeper easily saved his shot as it lacked enough power. In the 53rd minute, Sunil fired a shot from outside the box towards the post, but his shot was easily saved by the keeper, as it was straight to him. In the 61st minute, Mumbai had a good opportunity to double the lead after Machado played Sougou through on goal and the latter took a shot instead of passing the ball to Arnold, but the latter’s shot was saved easily by the keeper. In the 83rd minute, Khabra sent a superb cross, which found Sunil in the box and the latter could not keep his shot on target. At the stroke of end time, Delgado fired a shot from the free kick over the bar and Mumbai won the match by 1-0 to end Bengaluru’s unbeaten run in this season.
