SEMIFINAL 2- HYDERABAD HUNTERS VS MUMBAI ROCKETS

Semifinal 2 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Jan 12 ,saw the Hyderabad Hunters play against Mumbai Rockets.

Mumbai Rockets defeated Hyderabad Hunters by 4-2 at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. This win took them to the finals of PBL Season 4 with a dominating performance.

MATCH 1 – Men’s Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between K.G.Jung and L.Y.Dae of Mumbai Rockets and B. Isara and K.S.Rang of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Doubles Category. In the first game, Mumbai took the first point with Lee’s smash down the line. Mumbai took a 4-2 lead with Lee’s smash. However, Hunters reduced the deficit to one point after Lee’s service error. Hunters took an 8-7 lead after Lee’s smash caught the net. After the break Hunters took an 11-10, lead after Kim’s shot went long. However, Mumbai leveled the scores at 13 points each after Kim’s smash at the body of Rang. Finally, Mumbai won the first game by 15-14 with Lee’s forehand winner.

In the second game, Mumbai won the first point after Bodin’s unsuccessful review before they took a 2-0 lead. Hunters leveled the scores at three points each after Bodin’s backhand winner. Mumbai then leveled the scores at five points each on courtesy of Kim’s amazing net play before Hunters took a 3-point lead at the break after Kim’s return caught the net. After the break, Mumbai leveled the scores at 11 points each after Kim’s return caught the net. However, Mumbai took a 14-11 lead after Bodin’s return went wide. Finally, Mumbai won the match in straight games by 15-12 with Lee’s smash down the line that gave Mumbai a 1-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 2- Men’s Singles

The second match of the Tie was between Sameer Verma of Mumbai Rockets and M. Caljouw of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for Mumbai Rockets. In the first game, Sameer picked up the first point after Mark’s shot wide at the baseline before he took a 5-1 lead. However, Sameer extended his lead to 7-1 with a jump smash before he took a hefty 6-point lead at the break after Mark’s shot caught the net. After the break, Sameer extended his lead to 13-7 with a drop shot. However, Sameer extended his lead to 14-8 with a 326 KMPH smash down the line. Finally, Sameer won the first game by 15-8 after Mark’s shot went out.

In the second game, Sameer took the first point before he took a 3-0 lead after Mark’s shot went long. Sameer took a 4-1 lead with a 406 KMPH jump smash before he took a 7-2 lead with a disguised drop shot. Sameer took an 8-2 lead after Mark’s shot went long. After the break, Sameer extended his lead to 11-4 with a drop shot. Sameer further extended his lead to 13-6 with a cross-court winner. Finally, Sameer won the trump match in straight games by 15-7 with a smash down the line that gave Mumbai Rockets a 3-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 3- Women’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between S.Pardeshi of Mumbai Rockets and P.V.Sindhu of Hyderabad Hunters in the Women’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for Hyderabad Hunters. In the first game, Sindhu won the first point before she took a 5-1 lead with a brilliant smash. However, Pardeshi reduced the deficit to two points with a backhand drop shot. Pardeshi reduced the deficit further to one point with a backhand error before Sindhu took a 2-point lead at the break. After the break, Sindhu took a 12-6, lead with Pardeshi’s unforced errors. However, Sindhu extended his lead to 14-6 with a forehand cross-court winner. Finally, Sindhu won the first game by 15-6.

In the second game, Sindhu took a 2-0 lead with Pardeshi’s forehand-unforced error before she took a 5-0 lead with a body smash after the end of a 23-shot rally. However, Sindhu extended her lead to 7-3 with a forehand winner before she took a 5-point lead at the break with a forehand smash. After the break, Sindhu extended his lead to 12-5 with Pardeshi’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Sindhu won the trump match in straight games by 15-5 with a forehand winner down the line that helped Hunters to reduce the deficit to one point in the Tie.

MATCH 4- Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the Tie was between A. Antonsen of Mumbai Rockets and L.H.Il of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Antonsen won the first point after Lee’s backhand error before he took a 3-1 lead with Antonsen Jump Smash. However, Lee leveled the scores at three points each after Antonsen shot went wide. Antonsen leveled the scores at six points each with Lee’s unforced error. Lee took a 2-point lead at the break with a forehand winner. After the break, Lee took a 13-9, lead with a forehand cross-court winner. However, Antonsen brought down the deficit to one point with a forehand winner before Antonsen took a 1-point lead with a backhand winner. Finally, Antonsen won the first game by 15-13 with a forehand winner.

In the second game, Antonsen took a 2-0, lead with Lee’s unforced errors. However, Lee reduced the deficit to two points with Antonsen unforced errors. Antonsen took a 5-3 lead with a forehand winner before he took a 4-point lead at the break. After the break, Antonsen took a 10-4, lead with Lee’s backhand error. However, Antonsen extended his lead to 13-6 after Lee’s misjudgment. Finally, Antonsen won the match in straight games by 15-6 and helped Mumbai to qualify for the Finals by 4-2.
