TIE 26-AWADHE WARRIORS VS NORTH EASTERN WARRIORS

Tie 26 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Jan 9 ,saw the Awadhe Warriors play against North Eastern Warriors.

Awadhe Warriors ended their league stage on a dominant way after they defeated North Eastern Warriors by 5-0 at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. This win took Awadhe Warriors to the top spot in the league table, while Warriors ended their season a sad note.

MATCH 1 – Men’s Singles

The first match of the Tie was between Tian Houwei of North Eastern Warriors and L.D.Keun of Awadhe Warriors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Tian won the first point after Lee’s drift went wide before Lee took a 2-1 lead with a neat smash. Lee leveled the scores at five points each after he got the better of Tian in a 26-shot rally after Tian’s smash caught the net. Tian took a 7-5 lead with a powerful smash before Lee took a 1-point lead at the break after Tian’s return went wide. After the break, Lee extended his lead to 11-8 after Tian’s smash went wide at the end of a 34-shot rally. Lee further extended his lead to 14-9 after Tian’s shot caught the net. Finally, Lee won the first game by 15-9 on courtesy of some calm and patient game.

In the second game, Tian won the first point with a smash down the line before Lee took a 3-1 lead with a jump smash. Lee further extended his lead to 7-2 with Tian’s series of an unforced error. However, Tian leveled the scores at seven points each with a cross-court smash down the line before Lee took a 1-point lead at the break. After the break, Lee took, a 12-10 lead with a jump smash before Lee further extended his lead to 14-11 after Tian’s shot went wide. However, Tian reduced the deficit to one point with a body smash. Finally, Lee won the match in straight games by 15-13 after Tian’s smash caught the net that gave Awadhe Warriors a 1-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 2- Mixed Doubles

The second match of the Tie was between L.M.Chun and K.H.Na of North Eastern Warriors and M. Christiansen and A.Ponnappa of Awadhe Warriors in the Mixed Doubles Category. It was a trump match for Awadhe Warriors. In the first game, Warriors won the first point with Chun’s smash from the net before Ashwini leveled it up with a beautiful smash from the baseline. Awadhe Warriors took the lead for the first time in the game after Kim’s shot went wide. Awadhe took a 6-4 lead with Ashwini’s smash down the line. Awadhe Warriors took a 3-point lead at the break. After the break, Awadhe extended their lead to 11-5 on courtesy of some smart net play from the trump pair. Awadhe extended their lead further to 13-7 after Chun’s shot went out. Finally, Awadhe won the first game comfortably by 15-7 after Kim’s shot caught the net.

In the second game, Awadhe took the first point with Mathias superb deception shot. Warriors reduced the deficit to one point after Mathias cross-court went wide. Warriors leveled the scores at four points each with Mathias unforced error. Awadhe took a 6-4 lead with Chun’s smash into the body of Ashwini. Awadhe took a 1-point lead at the break after coming back from two-point down. After the break, Awadhe leveled the scores at 12 points each with Mathias smash at the body of Chun. From then on, both the teams exchanged points between them and the lead kept on swinging like a pendulum until 14 points. Finally, Awadhe Warriors won their trump match in straight games by 15-14 with Mathias forehand smash down the line that gave Awadhe a 3-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 3- Women’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between S. Nehwal of North Eastern Warriors and B.Zhang of Awadhe Warriors in the Women’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for North Eastern Warriors. In the first game, Saina took the first point with a forehand winner before she took a 3-0 lead. Zhang reduced the deficit to one point after Saina’s shot went long before Saina took a 4-point lead at the break with a forehand winner. After the break, Saina extended her lead to 10-5 with a forehand winner at the end of a 24-shot rally. Saina further increased her lead to 14-10 with a cross-court winner. Finally, she won the first game by 15-11 after Zhang’s cross-court shot went wide.

In the second game, Zhang took the first point with a powerful smash before she took a 3-0 lead. However, Saina reduced the deficit to one point after Zhang’s shot went wide. Zhang took a 6-4 lead with Saina’s unforced error before she took a 3-point lead at the beak with a powerful smash. After the break, Saina leveled the scores at eight points each with a forehand smash. Zhang leveled the scores at 10 points each after Saina’s shot went long before she took a 12-10 lead after Saina’s unforced error. Finally, Zhang forced the game into the decider by 15-11 after Saina’s shot went wide.

In the third game, Zhang took a quick 2-0 lead before she extended her lead to 4-2 with a forehand winner down the line. Zhang further extended her lead to 6-2 with a delicate cross-court drop shot before she took a comfortable 5-point lead at the break. After the break, Zhang extended her lead to 13-6 with a 324 KMPH jump smash. Finally, Zhang won against the trump by 15-7 with a cross-court winner that extended Awadhe Warriors lead to 4-(-1) in the tie.

MATCH 4- Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the Tie was between T. Saensomboonsuk of North Eastern Warriors and S.W.Ho of Awadhe Warriors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Tanongsak made a strong start to the game by taking a quick 2-0 lead. However, son took a 3-2 lead with a clever drop shot by picking up three points in a row. Tanongsak took a 7-5 lead with a 359 KMPH smash before he took a 3-point lead at the break with another smash. After the break, Tanongsak extended his lead to 12-5 with a backhand drop shot. Tanongsak extended his lead further to 14-6 with a ferocious smash. Finally, Tanongsak won the game by 15-8 with a forehand smash.

In the second game, Tanongsak took the first point with a smash at the body of Son. Son leveled the scores at three points each after Tanongsak’s drop shot went wide. Tanongsak took a 5-3 lead after Son’s jump smash caught the net. However, Son leveled the score at seven points each with a forehand smash down the line before Tanongsak took a 1-point lead at the break. After the break Tanongsak extended his lead to 12-8 with a lovely drop shot. Tanongsak extended his lead further to 14-10 with a smash from the baseline. Finally, Tanongsak won the match in straight games by 15-10 with a winner that gave Warriors their first victory of the night.

MATCH 5- Men’s Doubles

The fifth match of the Tie was between Y.Y.Seong and D. Kapila of North Eastern Warriors and A.M.R and Y.Lee of Awadhe Warriors in the Men’s Doubles Category. In the first game, Awadhe took the first point after Dhruv’s shot caught the net before they took a quick 5-0 lead. Awadhe took a 6-2 lead after Dhruv’s return went wide. Awadhe took a hefty 6-point lead at the break with Lee’s cross-court winner. After the break, Awadhe extended their lead to 11-3 with Lee’s forehand winner. Awadhe further extended their lead to 13-5 with Seong’s unforced error. Finally, Awadhe won the first game comfortably by 15-5 after Seong’s shot went wide.

In the second game Warriors too the first point with Dhruv’s smash before they took a 2-1 lead with Seong’s smash. However, Awadhe leveled the scores at three points each after Dhruv’s smash caught the net. Awadhe took a 6-4 lead with Lee’s jump smash from the baseline before they took a 2-point lead at the break after Seong’s silly error. After the break Awadhe extended their lead to 10-7 after Seong’s shot went wide. Awadhe further extended their lead to 13-9 with Lee’s jump smash. Finally, Awadhe Warriors won the match in straight games by 15-12 with Arjun’s forehand winner that gave Awadhe Warriors a 5-0 win in the Tie.
