PBL-SEASON-4-SEMIFINAL 1-AWADHE WARRIORS VS BENGALURU RAPTORS

Semifinal 1 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Jan 11 ,saw the Awadhe Warriors play against Bengaluru Raptors.

Bengaluru Raptors defeated Awadhe Warriors by 4-2 at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. This win made them the first team to qualify for the finals for the second consecutive season as well in a dominant way.

MATCH 1 – Mixed Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between of A.Ponnappa and M. Christiansen of Awadhe Warriors and M.Ellis, and L.Smith of Bengaluru Raptors in the Mixed Doubles Category. It was a trump match for Awadhe Warriors. In the first game, Raptors won the first point after Mathias shot went wide before Warriors took a 4-2 lead with Mathias jump smash. Warriors extended their lead to 6-2 with Mathias 382 KMPH smash. Warriors took a hefty 6-point lead at the break after Lauren’s shot went wide. After the break, Warriors extended their lead to 11-5 with Ashwini’s cross-court smash. Warriors further extended their lead to 14-6 after Lauren’s jump smash caught the net. Finally, Warriors won the first game by 15-7 after Lauren’s unforced error.

In the second game Warriors took a 2-1 lead after Ashwini’s neat drop shot before they raced to a quick 5-2 lead with Mathias smash from the baseline. Warriors extended their lead to 7-2 lead with Lauren’s unforced error before Warriors took a comfortable 5-point lead at the break. After the break, Warriors extended their lead to 11-6 with Mathias backhand winner. However, Raptors reduced the deficit to three points with Mathias unforced errors. Warriors further extended their lead to 14-10 after Lauren’s shot caught the net. Finally, Warriors won their trump match in straight games by 15-10 after Lauren’s shot went out that gave Awadhe Warriors a 2-0 lead in the tie.

MATCH 2- Men’s Singles

The second match of the Tie was between L.D.Keun of Awadhe Warriors and S. Praneeth of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Lee won the first point with a smash at Praneeth’s body and raced to a 2-0 lead with a beautiful flick into the corner. Lee took a 4-2 lead after he got the better of Praneeth in a 31-shot rally after Praneeth’s return went long. However, Praneeth took a 5-4 lead with a forehand winner. Praneeth took a 3-point lead at the break with a superb smash. After the break, Praneeth extended his lead to 11-6 with a backhand drop shot. Finally, Praneeth won the first game comfortable by 15-9 with a forehand winner.

In the second game, Praneeth won the first point after Lee’s error at the net before he took a 4-1 lead with a lovely drop shot. Praneeth extended his lead to 6-3 after his return went behind Lee. Praneeth took a 5-point lead at the break after Lee’s shot went wide. After the break, Praneeth extended his lead to 10-3 after his shot dropped safely inside the baseline. Praneeth further extended his lead to 13-3 with a 349 KMPH smash. Finally, Praneeth won the match in straight games by 15-4 with Lee’s unforced error that helped Raptors to win their first game of the Tie and reduce the deficit to one point.

MATCH 3- Men’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between S.W.Ho of Awadhe Warriors and S. Kidambi of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Srikanth won the first point with a jump smash. However, Son leveled the scores at three points each with a forehand winner. Srikanth took a 5-3 lead with a forehand cross-court winner. Srikanth took a comfortable 5-point lead at the break with a ferocious forehand smash. After the break, Srikanth extended his lead to 10-4 with a well-disguised drop shot. Srikanth further extended his lead to 12-4 with a thumping forehand smash. Finally, Srikanth won the first game by 15-7 comfortably.

In the second game, Srikanth won the first point with a forehand cross-court winner. Son leveled the scores at two points each with Srikanth’s unforced error. Srikanth took a 5-3 lead with a forehand cross-court winner. Srikanth took a hefty 5-point lead at the break with a backhand winner. After the break, Srikanth extended his lead to 11-5 with a forehand winner down the line. However, Son reduced the deficit to two points with Srikanth’s backhand-unforced error. Srikanth took a 14-9 lead with Son’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Srikanth won the match in straight games by 15-10 with Son’s service fault that leveled the scores at two points each in the Tie.

MATCH 4- Men’s Doubles

The fourth match of the Tie was between M. Christiansen and Yang Lee of Awadhe Warriors and M. Ahsan and H.Setiawan of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Doubles Category. It was a trump match for Bengaluru Raptors. In the first game, Warriors won the first point after they got the better of Raptors in a 33-shot rally with Ahsan’s forehand error. Raptors leveled the scores at three points each with Lee’s forehand-unforced error. Raptors took a 7-4 lead with Ahsan’s forehand winner before Raptors took a 3-point lead at the break. After the break, Raptors extended their lead to 11-8 with Mathias forehand error. However, Warriors reduced the deficit to one point with Mathias forehand winner. Finally, Raptors won the first game by 15-14 after Mathias backhand error.

In the second game, Raptors won the first point with Mathias forehand-unforced error. Raptors took a 4-2 lead with Hendra’s forehand cross-court winner. Raptors extended their lead to 7-3 after Lee’s forehand error before they took a comfortable 4-point lead at the break. After the break, Raptors extended their lead to 12-4 with Mathias backhand error. Raptors extended their lead to 14-7 with Ahsan’s jump smash down the line. Finally, Raptors won their trump match in straight games by 15-7 that helped Raptors to win the Tie by 4-2 and to book a spot in the PBL finals.
