Tie 20 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Jan 5 ,saw the Bengaluru Raptors play against North Eastern Warriors.

Bengaluru Raptors handed a 4-3 defeat to North Eastern Warriors at The Arena Trans Stadia at Ahmedabad. This win took Raptors to the fourth spot in the table, while Warriors moved to the sixth spot in the table.

MATCH 1 – Men’s Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between L.M.Chun and Y.Y.Seong of North Eastern Warriors and M. Ahsan and H.Setiawan of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Doubles Category. It was a trump match for Bengaluru Raptors. In the first game, Warriors won the first point with Seong’s cracking smash. However, Raptors leveled the scores at three points each with Ahsan’s body smash. Warriors took a 7-6 lead with Chun’s powerful smash before Raptors took a 1-point lead at the break. After the break, Raptors extended their lead to 10-8 after Chun’s shot went long. Warriors leveled the scores at 11 points each after Seong’s cross-court winner. Warriors extended their lead to 14-12 with Seong’s 237 KMPH smash before Raptors leveled it up after Chun’s shot went wide. Finally, Raptors won the first game with Hendra’s forehand winner.

In the second game, Warriors won the first point after Ahsan’s forehand-unforced error before Raptors took a 3-2 lead with Ahsan’s jump smash. However, Warriors fought back with some series of smashes and took a 6-5 lead. Raptors took a 1-point lead at the break with Hendra’s forehand winner. After the break, Warriors took a 10-9, lead with Seong’s lovely drop shot. However, Raptors took a 13-11 lead with Hendra’s superb shot. Finally, Raptors won the match in straight games by 15-11 with Hendra’s forehand smash that gave Raptors a 2-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 2- Men’s Singles

The second match of the Tie was between Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of North Eastern Warriors and Kidambi Srikanth of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Tanongsak won the first point of the game with a forehand winner before Srikanth leveled it up after Tanongsak’s forehand-unforced error. Tanongsak took a 4-2 lead after Srikanth’s backhand-unforced error. Tanongsak extended his lead to 6-3 with a forehand winner. However, Srikanth leveled the scores at six points each after Tanongsak’s forehand-unforced error. Srikanth took a 2-point lead at the break after Tanongsak’s shot went wide. After the break, Srikanth extended his lead to 11-6 with a forehand winner. Srikanth further extended his lead to 13-8 with Tanongsak’s service error. Finally, Srikanth won the game by 15-11 after Tanongsak’s backhand-unforced error.

In the second game, Srikanth won the first point with a cross-court winner before he took a 3-0 lead after Tanongsak’s forehand-unforced error. However, Tanongsak leveled the scores at three points each after Srikanth’s shot went wide. After some initial exchanges, Tanongsak took a 6-5, lead after Srikanth’s forehand-unforced error. Tanongsak took a 1-point lead after Srikanth’s unforced error. After the break, Srikanth took a 10-8, lead after Tanongsak’s forehand-unforced error. Srikanth further extended his lead to 13-9 with a lovely placement in a 37-shot rally. Finally, Srikanth won the match in straight games by 15-12 after Tanongsak’s unforced error that gave Raptors a 3-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 3- Women’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between Saina Nehwal of North Eastern Warriors and T.T.Vu of Bengaluru Raptors in the Women’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for North Eastern Warriors. In the first game, Saina won the first point of the game after Trang’s forehand-unforced error before She took a 3-0 lead after Trang’s miss-shot. Trang reduced the deficit to one point with a forehand smash before Saina took a 5-2 lead with a smash down the line. Saina took a 3-point lead at the break after Trang’s forehand-unforced error. After the break Trang reduced, the deficit to one point after Saina’s shot went wide. Saina extended her lead to 13-9 after Trang’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Saina won the first game by 15-10 with a cross-court winner.

In the second game, Trang won the first point with a cross-court drop shot before Trang took a 3-1 lead after Saina’s forehand-unforced error. Saina leveled the scores at three points each after Trang’s shot went long. Saina took a 6-4 lead after Trang’s forehand-unforced error. However, Trang reduced the deficit to one point after Saina’s forehand-unforced error before Saina took a 2-point lead at the break. After the break, Saina extended her lead to 12-6 after Trang’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Saina won the trump match in straight games by 15-7 after Trang’s forehand-unforced error that helped warriors to reduce the deficit to 2-3 in the Tie.

The fourth match of the Tie was between T. Houwei of North Eastern Warriors and S. Praneeth of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Singles Category. In the first game, Praneeth won the first point with a strong backhand shot. Sai reduced the deficit to one point with a delicate drop shot before Tian took a 6-4 lead after Praneeth’s forehand-unforced error. Sai leveled the scores at six points each with a body smash before Tian took a 2-point lead at the break. After the break, Sai reduced the deficit to one point with a cracking smash. Tian extended his lead to 14-11 after Sai’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Tian won the first game by 15-12 after Sai’s shot caught the net.

In the second game, Sai took the first point after Tian’s forehand-unforced error. However, Tian leveled the scores at two points each with Sai’s forehand-unforced error. Sai took a 5-2 lead with a cross-court winner before he took a hefty 5-point lead at the break. After the break, Sai extended his lead to 12-4 after Tian’s forehand-unforced error. Finally, Sai forced the game into the decider by 15-6 with a forehand winner.

In the third game, Tian won the first point after Praneeth’s forehand-unforced error before Praneeth leveled the scores at two points each after Tian’s forehand shot went wide. Sai took a 5-2 lead with a cross-court winner. Sai extended his lead to 7-3 with a forehand winner before he took a 5-point lead at the break. After the break Sai extended his lead to 11-4 after Tian’s shot went out. Sai further extended his lead to 14-6 with a forehand winner. Finally, Sai won the match by 15-7 after Tian’s forehand-unforced error that confirmed the Tie for Raptors with an unassailable 4-2 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 5- Mixed Doubles

The fifth match of the Tie was between L.M.Chun and K.H.Na of North Eastern Warriors and M.Ellis and L.Smith of Bengaluru Raptors in the Mixed Doubles Category. In the first game, Warriors won the first point after Lauren’s Smith went out. Raptors reduced the deficit to one point with Marcus forehand winner. Warriors took a 6-2 lead after Kim’s amazing return before they took a 3-point lead at the break. After the break, Raptors leveled the scores at eight points each with Marcus forehand winner. Warriors took a 14-10 lead with Kim’s forehand winner. Finally, Warriors won the first game by 15-11 after Smith’s shot went long.

In the second game, Raptors won the first point after Kim’s forehand-unforced error. Warriors took a 4-3 lead with Chun’s forehand smash. Warriors extended their lead to 7-4 after Kim’s forehand winner before they took a 4-point lead at the break. After the break, Warriors extended their lead to 10-4 with Chun’s ferocious smash. Raptors reduced the deficit to two points after Kim’s unforced error. Warriors further extended their lead to 14-9 after Lauren’s shot went out. Finally, Warriors won the match in straight games by 15-9 with Lauren’s unforced error that brought the scores to 3-4 in the Tie in favor of Raptors.
