TIE 15-HYDERABAD HUNTERS VS NORTH EASTERN WARRIORS

Tie 15 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Jan 1 ,saw the Hyderabad Hunters play against North Eastern Warriors.

Hyderabad Hunters came up with a dominating win over North Eastern Warriors by 5-0 at Shree Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. This win took them to the top spot of the table clear by three points.

MATCH 1 – Mixed Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between L.M.Chun and Kim Ha Na of North Eastern Warriors and Kim Sa Rang and E.H.Wan of Hyderabad Hunters in the Mixed Doubles Category. In the first game, Warriors took a 2-0 lead with Kim’s forehand winner before Hunters reduced the deficit to one point with Chun’s backhand error. Warriors extended their lead to 6-4 after Eom’s forehand went wide. Warriors took a 3-point lead at the break with Kim’s backhand winner. After the break Hunters reduced the deficit to three points with Kim’s cross-court winner before Warriors extended their lead to 13-8 with Chun’s delicate drop shot. Finally, Warriors won the first set comfortably by 15-8 after Kim’s backhand shot went wide.

In the second game, Warriors took the first point after Eom’s backhand error. Warriors then leveled the scores at two points each after Kim’s forehand shot went wide. Warriors took a 4-2 lead after Kim’s shot dropped off the top of the net. However, Hunters leveled the scores at five points each after Kim’s backhand error. Hunters took an 8-6 lead at the break with a forehand winner from Kim. After the break Hunters extended their lead to 11-7 with Kim’s backhand error before Warriors reduced the deficit to two points after they got the better of Hunters in a 39 shot rally after Eom’s backhand went long. Warriors took a 14-12 lead after Kim’s forehand error, but Hunters leveled it up after Kim’s backhand error. Finally, Warriors won the match by 15-14 after Eom’s service fault that gave Warriors a 1-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 2- Men’s Singles

The second match of the Tie was between Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of North Eastern Warriors and Lee Hyun of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for Hyderabad Hunters. In the first game, Lee took the first point after Tanongsak’s cross-court shot went wide before Tanongsak took a 5-1 lead with Lee’s forehand shot going long over the baseline. Lee reduced the deficit to two points with a cross-court winner. Tanongsak entered the break with an 8-4 lead on courtesy of a forehand winner. After the break, Tanongsak extended his lead to 11-7 after Lee’s unforced error before he further increased his lead to 13-7 with a forehand winner. Finally, Tanongsak took the first game by 15-10 after Lee’s unforced error.

In the second game, Lee picked up the first point after Tanongsak’s backhand error. Lee extended his lead to 7-1 with a forehand winner. However, Tanongsak reduced the deficit to three points with Lee’s backhand-unforced error. Lee entered the break with an 8-4 lead on courtesy of a superb drop shot. After the break Tanongsak reduced the deficit to two points after Lee’s smash went wide before Lee extended his lead to 13-10 with a forehand cross-court winner. However, Tanongsak leveled the scores at 13 points each after his shot dropped off the top of the net. Finally, Lee forced the game into the decider by 15-13 after Tanongsak’s forehand error.

In the third game, Tanongsak picked up the first point with a backhand winner before Lee leveled it up after Tanongsak’s unforced error. Both the players traded points between them to keep the score ticking before Lee took a 7-5 lead with a forehand winner. Lee took a 3-point lead at the break with Tanongsak’s unforced error. After the break, Lee extended his lead to 12-5 with a body smash. Tanongsak reduced the deficit to four points after Lee’s unforced error. Finally, Lee won his trump match by 15-9 with Tanongsak’s unforced error that gave Hunters a 2-1 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 3- Women’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between Saina Nehwal of North Eastern Warriors and P.V.Sindhu of Hyderabad Hunters in the Women’s Singles Category. In the first game, Sindhu took the first point after her lob landed safely inside the baseline before Saina leveled it up with a body smash. Sindhu took a huge 4-1 lead with a cross-court drop before she further extended her lead to 7-2 after Saina’s unforced error. However, Saina reduced the deficit to two points after Sindhu’s unforced error. Sindhu entered the break with a 3-point lead. After the break Saina reduced, the deficit to two points after Sindhu’s lob went long before Saina leveled the scores at 10 points each with a forehand winner. Saina soon took a 12-10 lead with Sindhu’s backhand error before Saina further increased her lead to 14-10 with a backhand winner. Finally, Saina won the first game by 15-11 with Sindhu’s unforced error.

In the second game, Sindhu won the first point of the game with Saina’s backhand-unforced error. Sindhu took a 3-1 lead after Saina’s backhand error. Sindhu further extended her lead to 6-3 with a jump smash before Sindhu took a 5-point lead at the break with a body smash. After the break, Saina reduced the deficit to two points after she got the better of Sindhu in a 24-shot rally with Sindhu’s forehand shot going wide. Sindhu extended her lead to 10-6 after Saina’s forehand shot caught the net and further increased her lead to 13-8 after her backhand lob landed safely inside the baseline. Finally, Sindhu forced the game into the decider by 15-9 after Saina’s shot smashed the net.

In the third game, Sindhu upped the ante and took an early 3-0 lead with a forehand winner. Sindhu extended her lead to 7-2 with a 362 KMPH smash before she took a 6-point lead at the break with a body smash. After the break, Sindhu extended her lead to 11-3 with an ace. Finally, Sindhu won the match by 15-5 with Saina’s unforced error that gave Hunters a 3-1 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 4- Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the Tie was between Tian Houwei of North Eastern Warriors and Mark Caljouw of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for North Eastern Warriors. In the first game, Mark picked up the first point after Tian’s unforced error before Mark took a 5-2 lead after Tian’s forehand shot went wide. Mark took an 8-4 lead at the break with Tian’s forehand error. After the break, Mark extended his lead to 11-5 with a forehand cross-court winner. However, Tian reduced the deficit to three points after Caljouw’s smash went long over the baseline. Tian brought down the score to 11-13 with a jump smash. Finally, Mark won the game by 15-11 with a forehand winner.

In the second game, Mark picked up the first point of the game before he took a 4-3 lead on courtesy of some smart net play. Mark extended his lead to 6-3 with a forehand winner. Mark took a 5-point lead at the break after Tian’s unforced error. After the break, Mark extended his lead to 10-5 with Tian’s backhand error. However, Tian leveled the scores at 10 points each with a forehand winner down the line. From then both the players traded points between them and the lead kept on swinging like a pendulum before both of them fought for the golden point. Finally, Mark won against the trump in straight games by 15-14 after Tian’s backhand went long that confirmed the Tie for Hyderabad hunters with an unassailable lead of 4-0 in the Tie.

MATCH 5- Men’s Doubles

The fifth match of the Tie was between Y.Y.Seong and L.M.Chun of North Eastern Warriors and Bodin Isara and Kim Sa Rang of Hyderabad Hunters in the Men’s Doubles Category. In the first game, Hunters won the first point with Bodin’s ferocious smash. Hunters took an early 6-2 lead after Chun’s unforced error before Hunters took an 8-2 lead at the break. After the break, Warriors reduced the deficit to four points after they came better of Hunters in an amazing 56 shot rally. Finally, Hunters win the first game comfortably by 15-10.

In the second game, Warriors made a quick start as they took an early 2-0 lead. From then both the teams exchanged points between them to keep the score ticking before Warriors took an 8-6 lead at the break. After the break, both the teams were neck-on-neck and Warriors fought for a consolation win. Finally, Warriors forced the game into the decider by 15-12 with a forehand smash by picking up three consecutive points.

In the third game, Hunters won the first point of the decider with Bodin’s smash. Hunters extended their lead to 5-2 in a 43 shot rally after Kim’s shot dropped off the top of the net. Hunters took a hefty 4-point lead at the break after Warriors unforced error. After the break Warriors reduced the deficit to two points after Kim’s shot caught the net. However, Hunters extended their lead to 13-11 with Bodin’s smash before Warriors leveled the scores at 14 points each with Chun’s forehand smash. Finally, Hunters won the match by 15-14 after Chun’s unforced error that gave Hunters a 5-0 win over Warriors in the Tie.
