TIE 13-BENGALURU RAPTORS VS PUNE 7 ACES

Tie 13 of Premier Badminton League 4, held on Dec 30 ,saw the Bengaluru Raptors play against Pune 7 Aces.

Bengaluru Raptors registered their first win of the season after they defeated Pune 7 Aces by 4-3 in a thriller at Shree Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. This win took Raptors to the seventh spot, while Pune moved to the fourth spot in the table.

MATCH 1 – Men’s Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between V.Ivanov and Chirag Shetty of Pune 7 Aces and Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Doubles Category. In the first game, Pune picked up the first point with Hendra’s unforced error. Raptors took a 5-3 lead with Chirag’s backhand error. However, Ahsan’s backhand error leveled the scores at seven points each for Pune. Raptors took an 8-7 lead at the break. After the break, Pune leveled the scores at 10 points each with a body smash. Raptors extended their lead to 13-11 with Hendra’s forehand winner. Finally, Raptors won the first game by 15-12 after Chirag’s forehand error.

In the second game, Pune picked up the first point with Ivanov’s body smash. Raptors reduced the deficit to two points with Hendra’s superb drop shot. However, Pune extended their lead to 7-4 after Hendra’s service error. Pune took an 8-4 lead at the break with Chirag’s fierce smash. After the break, Raptors leveled the scores at nine points each with Hendra’s smash down the line. Raptors extended their lead to 13-10 with Hendra’s forehand winner. Finally, Raptors won the first match in straight games by 15-11 with Chirag’s backhand error that gave Bengaluru Raptors a 1-0 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 2-Women’s Singles

The second match of the Tie was between Carolina Marin of Pune 7 Aces and Vu Thi Trang of Bengaluru Raptors in the Women’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for Pune 7 Aces. In the first game, Marin picked up the first point of the game with a smash before Trang took a 3-2 lead after Marin’s smash caught the net. Marin took a 6-3 lead after Trang’s backhand shot caught the net. Marin entered the break with an 8-3 lead after Trang’s forehand smash went wide. After the break, Marin extended her lead to 13-5 with a backhand winner. Trang picked up three consecutive points, but Marin finally won the first game comfortably by 15-8 with Trang’s unforced error.

In the second game, Marin opened her account with a forehand smash down the line and raced to an early 3-0 lead with a body smash. However, Trang reduced the deficit to one point after Marin’s backhand shot went long. Marin increased her lead to 6-3 with Trang’s backhand error. Marin took a 5-point lead at the break after Trang’s forehand shot went long. After the break, Marin extended her lead to 12-5 with a body smash. Finally, Marin sealed the match in straight games by 15-5 with a forehand winner that gave Pune 7 Aces a 2-1 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 3- Men’s Singles

The third match of the Tie was between Ajay Jayaram of Pune 7 Aces and Srikanth Kidambi of Bengaluru Raptors in the Men’s Singles Category. It was a trump match for Bengaluru Raptors. In the first game, Srikanth picked up the first point before Ajay leveled it with the former’s backhand error. Ajay took a 5-3 lead after Srikanth’s lob went long over the baseline. Ajay took a comfortable 8-5 lead at the break with Srikanth’s unforced error. After the break, Ajay extended the lead to 12-7 with a close smash. Finally, Ajay won the first game by 15-10 with a smash.

In the second game, Srikanth picked up the first point with a 370 KMPH jump smash and raced to a 5-0 lead with Jayaram’s backhand error. Srikanth took an 8-3 lead at the break with Jayaram’s backhand error. After the break, Srikanth extended their lead to 11-4 with a smash down the line. However, Ajay reduced the deficit to two points after Srikanth’s backhand shot went wide. Srikanth further extended his lead to 13-9 with a backhand winner. Finally, Srikanth forced the game into the decider by 15-12 with Jayaram’s unforced error.

In the third game, Srikanth took a 2-0 lead with a body smash before Ajay took a 4-3 lead after Srikanth’s lob went long. Srikanth leveled the scores at six points each after Jayaram’s forehand error. Ajay took a 1-point lead at the break after Srikanth’s smash went wide. After the break, Srikanth raced to an 11-9 lead with Jayaram’s backhand error. However, Ajay leveled the scores at 11 points each with a forehand winner. Srikanth reached the match point with a forehand winner before Ajay leveled it with a backhand smash. Finally, Srikanth won the match by 15-14 after Jayaram’s shot went long that gave Bengaluru Raptors a 3-2 lead in the Tie.

MATCH 4-Mixed Doubles

The fourth match of the Tie was between V.Ivanov and Line Kjaersfeldt of Pune 7 Aces and Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith of Bengaluru Raptors in the Mixed Doubles Category. In the first game, Pune won the first point with Ivanov’s smash. Raptors reduced the deficit to one point after Line’s smash went wide. Pune extended their lead to 7-5 with Line’s smash down the line before Pune took a 2-point lead at the break. After the break, Pune extended their lead to 11-7 with Ivanov’s smash. However, Raptors leveled the scores at 13 points each with Ellis smash. Finally, Pune won the first game by 15-13 after Ellis shot went long.

In the second game, Pune won the first point with Ivanov’s brilliant smash. Pune extended their lead to 5-0 with Line’s smash before they further increased their lead to 7-9 with Ellis unforced error. Raptors picked up two consecutive points with Ivanov’s error before Pune took an 8-2 lead at the break. After the break, Pune extended their lead to 12-5 after Ellis shot caught the net. Finally, Pune won the match in straight games by 15-9 after Laura’s shot caught the net that leveled the scores at three points for Pune with the Raptors in the Tie.

MATCH 5- Men’s Singles

The fifth match of the Tie was between Lakshya Sen of Pune 7 Aces and S. Praneeth of Bengaluru Raptors in the Mixed Singles Category. In the first game, Lakshya picked up the first point of the game before Praneeth took a 4-2 lead with formers unforced error. Praneeth further increased his lead to 6-3 with a good movement in the court. Praneeth took an 8-5 lead at the break with Lakshya’s unforced error. After the break, Praneeth extended his lead to 12-8 with a big smash. Finally, Praneeth won the first game by 15-9 in the deciding match.

In the second game, Praneeth took the first point before he took an early 5-2 lead with a ferocious smash. Praneeth extended his lead to 7-2 with a pinpoint smash before he took an 8-2 lead at the break. After the break, Praneeth extended his lead to 10-3 with a forehand winner. However, Lakshya reduced the deficit to two points with a deceptive drop shot. Finally, Praneeth won the match in straight games by 15-13 after Lakshya’s shot smashed the net that helped Raptors to seal the tie by 4-3 scoreline.
