Match 129 of Pro Kabaddi League season 6, held on Dec 26, saw the Gujarat Fortune Giants play against Patna Pirates.

Gujarat ended their league stage with a superb 37-29 victory at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. Ajay and Rohit combined together picked up 17 raids ably supported by Sunil with five tackle points, while Pardeep was the lone warrior for Patna with 10 raid points.

A Low Scoring Half

Rohit Gulia and Pardeep Narwal started the proceedings of the game with a successful raid. Patna raced to an early 6-2 lead on courtesy of Pardeep’s three points followed up by a tackle point each from Vikas and Manjeet. However, Gujarat leveled the scores at six points each with some successful raids followed up by Sunil’s ankle hold on Manjeet. In the 10th minute, Patna opened up a three-point lead after Pardeep’s two-point raid followed up by Vikas, tackle on Lalit. Gulia’s two successive raids followed up by Parvesh tackle on Manjeet leveled the scores once again for Gujarat. Patna reduced Gujarat to three men on the mat after Pardeep’s two successive raids followed up by Ajay’s self-out. Amit’s super tackle on Pardeep followed up by Lalit’s successful raid helped Gujarat to head into the break with a 13-12 lead.

As the second half started both the teams exchanged points between them and were leveled at 15 points each. Ajay’s three successful raids followed up by Sunil’s tackle on Vijay and Pardeep reduced Patna to a solitary player on the mat. However, during Vikas raid, he stepped out of the mat before three defenders from Gujarat dashed him out of the mat, which reduced Patna’s deficit to two points. Ajay’s two-point raid followed up by Rohit’s successful raid reduced Patna once again to a single player on the mat. In the 35th minute, Gujarat inflicted an all-out on Patna with Parvesh tackle on Tushar to take a 28-23 lead. Patna in the next three minutes reduced the deficit to two points on courtesy of Pardeep’s three raid points followed up by two tackle points from Patna defenders. A super tackle on Pardeep from Sunil and Lalit followed up by Ajay’s two-point raid dented the hopes of Patna winning the game. Lalit picked up the last point of the night with a tackle on Tushar, which gave Gujarat a 37-29 victory and the only team in PKL to cross 90 points in the standings.
