MATCH-54-FC PUNE CITY VS FC GOA

Match 54 of Indian Super League 5, held on Dec 11 ,saw the FC Pune City  play against FC Goa.

FC Pune City picked up their second consecutive win of this season after defeating Goa by 2-0 at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. This win took Pune to the seventh spot while Goa remained at the fourth spot in the table. Goa had 58% possession than Pune’s 42%.

Goalless Half

FC Goa won the toss and chose their side. The game started on an even note as both the teams enjoyed playing in the midfield without testing either of the keepers. The first chance of the game came in the 17th minute when Hume played Marcelo through on goal and the latter fired a shot towards the target, but Seriton made a brilliant save in the end to deny a goal for the hosts. In the 22nd minute, Edu Bedia sent a ball over Pune’s backline which found Brandon in the box and the latter fired his shot towards the near post, but the keeper made a good save to ensure the scoreline remained the same. In the 29th minute, Edu Bedia sent a ball to Brandon on the right, but the latter’s shot went just over the crossbar. In the 41st minute, Lenny cuts the ball from the left to Corominas and the latter played the ball to Edu Bedia inside the box. However, Bedia’s shot went over the crossbar by a whisker. Finally, both the sides entered the break without breaking the deadlock.

Pune defeats Goa in front of their home crowd

As the second half started both the sides made a cautious start to the half with visitors seeing more of the ball. In the 52nd minute, Edu Bedia through his fire kick fired a shot towards the top right corner, but his shot went wide of the post. In the 63rd minute, Robin headed the ball to Hume after receiving a long ball and the latter skipped a couple of defenders before firing the shot towards the target, but his shot went wide of the post. In the 70th minute, Ahmed unleashed a shot towards the goal, which took a deflection of Adil’s leg, but Kamaljit was alert enough as he made a brilliant save in the end. In the next, minute Marcelo fired a shot towards the far corner from inside the box, but Nawaz made a brilliant save by diving to his right. In the 74th minute, Pune took the lead against the run of play through Marcelo, which was his third goal of this season. Sarthak played Marcelo outside the box and the latter unleashed a shot towards the goal, which found the back of the net to give Pune a 1-0 lead. In the next minute, Ahmed fired a shot towards the goal from the edge of the box, which beat the keeper but ended up hitting the upright. In the added time, Pune got a chance to seal the game after Ali brought down Stankovic inside the box and the referee gave a penalty kick to the hosts. Stankovic took the spot and calmly slotted the ball in the bottom left corner by sending the keeper in the wrong direction. This gave Pune all three points and jumped to the seventh spot in the table and kept their playoffs hopes alive.
