Match 50 of Indian Super League 5, held on Dec 6 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC  play against Mumbai City FC.

Mumbai City picked up their sixth victory in this season with a convincing 2-0, win over Chennaiyin Fc at the Mumbai Football Arena in Mumbai. Raynier and Sougou scored a goal each on either side of the half and helped Mumbai jump to the second spot in the table. Chennaiyin FC had 53% possession than Mumbai’s 47%.

Mumbai headed into the break with a 1-0 lead

Chennaiyin FC won the toss and chose their side. Both the sides started the half on a slow note, as they were not able to get past other’s defence. In the 10th minute Sougou sent a through ball to Bastos in the box and the latter fired, a shot towards the goal, but the keeper saved his shot easily. After that there were not many chances created, as both side were happy playing the ball in the midfield. In the 27th minute, the home side took the lead Bastos sent a superb pass from the left to Fernandes and the latter smashed the ball into the bottom left corner to give his side a 1-0 lead. In the 32nd minute Raphael sent an inch perfect cross from the right which found Carlos and the latter’s shot towards the target was saved comfortably by the keeper. At the stroke of the half time Raphael played a delightful ball to Thoi, but the latter miscued his shot into the stands. In the added time, Sougou pounced on to Mailson’s clearance and fired a shot towards the goal, but his shot hit the crossbar and went out of play. Finally, the hosts entered the break with a 1-0 lead.

Mumbai jumps to the 2nd spot in the league

As the second half started in the 55th minute, the hosts doubled their lead through Sougou. Bastos made a brilliant run into the box before his shot was blocked by Sabia’s foot, but to his dismay, it found the head of Sougou who calmly headed the ball into the empty net. In the 79th minute, Issac sent a short pass to Orlandi and the latter fired his shot towards the target, but Amrinder saved his shot with a fingertip save. From then Chennai went deeper to pull a goal back but was stopped by Mumbai defenders. In the added time the keeper saved Orlandi’s shot and the rebound fell into the path of Thoi and the latter headed into the empty net, but to his dismay, it was called an offside. Finally, Mumbai picked up a comprehensive win and moved to the second spot in the table.
