Match 43 of Indian Super League 5, held on Nov 29 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC play against Kerala Blasters FC.
Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters played out a goalless draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Both the sides settled for a point from the game and the chances for them to be into the playoffs became tougher due to this tie. Kerala Blasters had 55% possession than Chennai’s 45%.
Chances Galore
Chennaiyin FC won the toss and chose their side. The hosts created the first chance of the game when Augusto went past a defender on the right and sent a cross to Issac in the 6-yard box who had an empty goal at his mercy, but the latter hits his shot wide of the post. A couple of minutes later Issac sent a cross from the left to Orlandi in the box, but the latter’s shot was straight to the keeper. From then on Kerala started to have the possession and passed between them without taking any risks. In the 20th minute Orlandi ran towards the box before passing the ball to Jeje and the latter’s first time shot went over the crossbar. In the 30th minute Orlandi floated the ball from the left to Eli Sabia who headed it into the path of Thoi Singh and the latter fired a shot towards the goal, but the keeper saved his shot by diving towards his left. A couple of minutes later Jeje and Thoi played one-on-one between them and the former squared the ball to Thoi who had an entire goal at his mercy, but Thoi missed a sitter by hitting his shot wide of the post. The hosts had many chances to score, but they were not able to find the back of the net somehow and entered the break without breaking the deadlock.
Goalless draw
As the second half started in the 55th minute Kerala created the first chance of the game after Kizito sent a superb pass to Samad who was unmarked and the latter fired a shot towards the goal, but the keeper denied him from scoring a goal with a brilliant save. In the 71st minute, Augusto played Thoi through on goal and the latter got into the box before squaring the ball to Jeje. Jeje then poked the ball into the path of Orlandi, but the latter’s shot went over the crossbar. In the 80th minute Doungel was played through on goal and fired a shot towards the far post which beat the keeper, but it hit the woodwork and went away from danger. In the next minute Jhingan sent a cross, which was punched away by the keeper into the path of Narzary who headed it to Doungel in the middle. However, Doungel’s shot went wide of the post when he tried to place it in the bottom right corner. Finally, the southern derby ended in a goalless draw despite many chances created in the game.
