Match 41 of Indian Super League 5, held on Nov 27 ,saw the North East United FC  play against FC Pune City.

North East United moved to the second spot in the league table with a 2-0 win over Pune at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. North East United had 51% possession than Pune’s 49%.

An Entertaining Half

North East United won the toss and chose their side. Both the sides started the game on a good note by creating few chances towards the target. However, the hosts in the 12th minute had a chance to break the deadlock after Marcelo floated a ball from the corner towards the box. Ashique got to the end of it and fired a shot towards the target, but the keeper made a terrific save in the net. In the 21st minute, Reagan Singh sent a long ball in the middle, which found Ogbeche, and the latter fired a shot towards the goal, but Kamaljit parried it away from the danger. A couple of minutes later the Highlanders took the lead through their captain Ogbeche that was his eighth goal of this season. Federico swung the ball from the corner, which found Ogbeche at the far post and the latter toe-poked the ball into the empty net to give his side a 1-0 lead. In the 34th minute, Sahil sent a lovely through ball to Hume who fired a shot towards the target with a lot of power, but the keeper came out of his line and saved it. Marcelo swung his free kick in the box, which found the head of Mills, but the keeper superbly saved his header and helped the Highlanders go into the break with a 1-0 lead.

North East moved to the 2nd spot in the League Table

As the second half started in the 47th minute Gallego tried his luck from a distance towards the goal, but it took a deflection of Pune defender and went straight into the hands of the keeper. In the 69th minute Mehta’s throw hits Mills and fell into the path of Robin who then unleashed a shot towards the target, but once again the keeper came to the rescue. At the stoke of the end time, North East won a penalty after Panwar brought down Mascia inside the box and the latter stepped in to take the spot. Mascia placed his shot into the bottom corner with a lot of power and gave his team a 2-0 lead. Finally, North East bagged all three points from the game and moved to the second spot in the league table.
