Match 39 of Indian Super League 5, held on Nov 25 ,saw the Jamshedpur FC  play against Chennaiyin FC.

Jamshedpur clinched a comfortable win over Chennaiyin FC defeating them by 3-1.This win helped Jamshedpur to move to the third spot in the table, on the other hand Chennaiyin FC dropped down to ninth spot in the table. Chennaiyin FC had 52% possession than Jamshedpur’s 48%.

Jamshedpur went into the break with a 2-0 lead

Jamshedpur FC won the toss and chose their side. Both the sides started the game cautiously by playing the ball in the midfield. In the 11th minute Bikash drilled, a low cross inside the box, but Eli kicked it way from a danger for a corner kick. The defender got luck, as the ball did not hit back into his own net. A couple of minutes later the hosts took a 1-0 lead on courtesy of Morgado’s stunner. Mailson clearance from Calvo’s free kick found Morgado outside the box and the latter smashed the ball into the right corner, which beat the keeper and found the back of the net. After that goal, the hosts went on offensive mode and made life difficult for the visitors.  In the 27th minute Soosairaj forced a save from Karanjit Singh at the far post, but the rebound ball fell to Sumeet inside the box. However the hosts earned a penalty after Jerry tried to foul Passi by taking the ball and Calvo stepped up to take the spot. Carlos Calvo gave the hosts 2-0 lead by sending the keeper in the wrong direction. In the 34th minute Thapa swung in the ball inside the box which found Mailson, but the latter could not keep his header on target. In the 40th minute Thapa tried his luck from a distance, but the keeper saved his shot as it lacked enough power. Finally, Jamshedpur headed into the break with a 2-0 lead.

As the second half started in the 49th minute Carlos went past the Chennai defenders and passed the ball to Passi on the left, but the latter’s shot from outside the box failed to beat the keeper. In the 65th minute, Chennai earned a penalty after Jairu brought down Nelson inside the box. Initially, it was not awarded after the consultation with the linesman the referee pointed out the spot and Augusto stepped in to take the penalty. Augusto pulled one goal back for the super machans by sending the keeper in the wrong direction. In the 71st minute Soosairaj went past couple of Chennai’s defenders and cuts back to Cahill, but the latter’s shot was superbly blocked by Eli Sabia for a corner. The hosts doubled their lead from the resulting set piece. Carlos curled the ball from the corner, which found Arques head, and the latter headed the ball into the back of the net to give his side a 3-1 lead. The visitors tried to equalize but they were not able to get past Jamshedpur’s strong back line. Finally, Jamshedpur took three points home with a 3-1 win over the defending champions.
