Match 37 of Indian Super League 5, held on Nov 23 ,saw the Northeast United FC  play against Kerala Blasters FC.

North East United secured their first win at home by scoring two late goals in the stoppage time to beat Kerala Blasters by 2-1 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. This win helped North East to move to the third spot in the table. North East United had 56% possession than Kerala’s 44%.

Goalless half

North East United won the toss and chose their side. In the sixth minute Poplatnik got the ball on the left and tried to curl the ball towards the far post but his shot was easily saved by the keeper as it was too close to him. In the 10th minute, Ogbeche fired a shot towards the goal from a corner, but Dheeraj made a terrific save in the end to deny Ogbeche’s powerful header. After four minutes Kerala squandered a chance to score a goal after Halicharan sent a beautiful cross to Doungel in the box who was unmarked, but the latter missed the shot and the ball went off the target. In the 21st minute, Tlang sent a delightful long ball to Komorski at the near post, but the latter could not keep his header on target. In the 37th minute, Krcmarevic pass found the foot of Narzary on the right and the latter went past a defender and managed to chip the ball past the onrushing keeper. However, his shot hit the post and the rebound ball found Doungel in the box, but he could not keep his shot on target. Finally, both the sides entered the break without breaking the deadlock.

Two late goals helps North East to secure their first home win

As the second half started in the 58th minute Regan tried to chip the ball into the box and found Ogbeche in the box, but the keeper easily saved his bicycle kick as it lacked enough power. In the 71st minute Dheeraj managed to get, his fingertips to a ball, which was chipped in towards the far post and Cyril, cleared it from danger. A couple of minutes later Kerala took the lead against the run of play through Poplatnik. Zakir sent a cross at the near post to Poplatnik who was unmarked inside the box and the latter managed to head the ball into the near post to give his team a 1-0 lead. In the injury time, North East won a penalty after Jhingan brought down Juan Mascia inside the box and Ogbeche stepped in to take the spot. Ogbeche equalized the score by slotting his shot to the right of the keeper without doing any mistake. In the last minute of the injury time, Mascia scored a winner with a powerful strike. Rowlin Borges sent a pass to Mascia in the box and the latter smashed the ball towards the goal past the keeper. Finally, North East won their first win at home with a 2-1 scoreline.
