ISL-SEASON 5-MATCH-30-FC PUNE CITY VS CHENNAIYIN FC
Match 30 of Indian Super League 5, held on Nov 6 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC play against FC Pune City.
A superb comeback from Chennaiyin FC in the second half gave them a 4-2 win over Pune at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune. This is Chennai’s first win in this season, on the other hand, Pune moved to the last spot in the league table. Chennai had 60% possession than Pune’s 40%.
Pune entered the break with a 1-0 lead
FC Pune City won the toss and chose their side. Both the teams played cautiously and played the ball mostly in the midfield. Against the run of play, the hosts took the lead through Ashique Kuruniyan. Robin Singh from the right sent an inch-perfect cross to Kuruniyan in the box and the latter fired a shot towards the far post, which beat the keeper and found the back of the net. Chennai started to increase the pace and started to pass the ball with good accuracy, but they were not able to get past the Pune defense. In the 43rd minute, Fernandes fired a shot toward the goal from inside the box but his shot was easily saved by the keeper, as it was straight at him. At the stroke of the halftime, Marcelo floated a free kick from the right, which found Mills at the far post who fired a shot towards the target, but the keeper easily saved his shot. Finally, Pune went into the break with a one-goal advantage.
Chennai picked up their first win with an amazing comeback
As the second half started in the 54th minute, Chennai scored an equalizer through Mailson Alves. Thapa sent a superb free-kick from the right, which found Mailson at the far post who headed it past the diving keeper. A couple of minutes later Chennai took the lead through Mailson and Nelson. Mailson sent a long ball to Nelson in the middle past Pune defense and the latter chipped in the ball over the keeper, which found the back of the net. In the 69th minute, Chennai doubled their lead through a corner. Thapa’s shot from the corner took a deflection of Augusto and found Calderon inside the box and Calderon found the back of the net with an overhead kick. After three minutes, Chennai scored one more goal through substitute Thoi Singh. Augusto sent a cross across the face of the goal, but the keeper easily saved Jeje’s shot. However, the rebound fell into the path of Thoi Singh who calmly slotted into the back of the net. In the 80th minute, Augusto tried his luck from a distance towards the target, but his shot went over the crossbar. In the 90th minute, Pune scored a consolation goal as Marcelo sent a lovely ball from the corner, which found Vila at the near post, and the latter headed the ball into the top corner. In the injury time, Marcelo was sent off the field after a rash challenge on Germanpreet by the referee. Finally, Chennai picked up their first win in this season with this amazing comeback.
