ISL-SEASON 5-MATCH-17-MUMBAI CITY FC VS FC GOA
Match 17 of Indian Super League 5, held on Oct 24 ,saw the Mumbai City FC play against FC Goa.
FC Goa rattled Mumbai City’s shaky defense with a commanding 5-0 victory over them at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. FC Goa had 55% possession than Mumbai’s 45%.
Gaurs head into the break with a 1 goal lead
FC Goa won the toss and chose their side. As soon as the game started, Mumbai got the first big chance of the game when Paulo’s shot from the free kick evaded everyone in the middle and found Subhasish Bose at the far post. However, Subhasish Bose’s shot went over the crossbar in the end. A couple of minutes later the home side earned a penalty after Souvik Chakrabarti brought down Corominas inside the box. Corominas stepped up for the spot kick and calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net to give hosts a 1-0 lead. In the 15th minute, the visitors got another chance as Arnold Issoko played a ball to Lucian Goian at the far post but Goian’s header went over the goal. In the 24th minute, Subhasish played a pass to Bastos in the middle, but the latter’s effort went wide of the target. In the next minute, Hugo played a ball to Jackichand on the right and his shot towards the target forced Arminder to make a good save at the far post in the end. In the 41st minute Jackichand got the ball on the left and passed the ball to Coro inside the box, but Souvik got ahead of him and cleared the ball with ease. In the next minute, Hugo went past Mumbai defense, took an extra touch, and eventually fired a shot, which went over the target. Finally, Goa went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
A Five star performance by Goa
As the second half started in the 55th minute, the hosts doubled their lead as Seriton played a lovely ball from the byline, which found Jackichand in the middle and he slotted the ball inside the net with ease. In the 61st minute, Goa scored another goal as Edu Bedia played a give-and-go with Coro and unleashed a shot, which rocketed into the top right corner. A couple of minutes later Mumbai had a chance to pull one goal back, but Machodo’s effort near the goal could not keep it on target. In the 80th minute, Coro laid the ball to Bedia outside the box and the latter looked to bend one in his first-time volley, but his effort went over the crossbar. In the 84th minute Manvir stole the ball from Mumbai’s defense and put Miguel through on goal and the latter took a touch and blasted his shot past the keeper. In the added time, Goa scored another goal as Ahmed won the ball from Bhumij and laced the ball to Miguel at the far post who took a touch and slotted it past the keeper. In the next minute, Mumbai had a chance to score, a consolation goal through Machado’s free kick from outside the box, but his shot was superbly saved by flying Nawaz. Finally, Goa won their first game at home by 5-0 comfortably.
