Match 5 of Pro Kabaddi League season 6, held on Oct 9, saw the Dabang Delhi play against Gujarat Fortune Giants.
Delhi made a brilliant comeback in the second half to enforce a tie on Gujarat Fortune Giants by 32-32 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Substitute Chandran Ranjit was top scorer from the game with nine raid points and a tackle point.
Gujarat head into the break with a 5-point lead
Rohit and Shabeer Bappu started the proceedings for their respective teams with an empty raid. Naveen picked up the first point of the game with a successful raid for Delhi, on the other hand, Prapanjan got 2 points of his opening raid in the first do-or-die raid of the game. Gujarat started to pick up points from both offense and defense, on the other hand for Delhi except Naveen no one was able to achieve success. Gujarat inflicted the first all-out of the game on Delhi in the sixth minute with the scoreline reading 9-3. Chandran’s two consecutive raid points in the 14th minute reduced their deficit to 4 points. Before the halftime, Chandran added two more points to his team and Gujarat entered the half with a 17-12 lead.
Delhi’s fighting comeback salvages a tie against Gujarat
As the second half-started introduction of Viraj and Pawan brought some fortunes for Delhi as Viraj tackled Rohit off the mat. Pawan and Naveen raided well and were in process of enforcing an all-out on Gujarat, but Sunil managed a super tackle on Naveen in the 27th minute to maintain a 5-point lead. Chandran and Pawan were trying hard to enforce all-out on Gujarat, but Sachin on the other picked up raid points with ease. However, Chandran tackled Sachin off the mat in the 34th minute it opened the gates for Gujarat’s all-out. Delhi inflicted an all-out on Gujarat in the 35th minute and reduced the deficit by 2 points after Rajput’s unsuccessful raid. Delhi leveled the score in the next minute with Naveen’s successful raid. Both the teams started to pick points on regular basis and the scores were tied at 31 points each with a minute to go in the game. Pawan and Rajput both picked up points for their respective teams with a successful raid and both sides settled for a thrilling 32-32 tie.
