ISL-SEASON 5-MATCH-7-KERALA BLASTERS FC VS MUMBAI CITY FC
Match 7 of Indian Super League 5, held on Oct 5 ,saw the Kerala Blasters FC play against Mumbai City FC.
Mumbai drew with Kerala by 1-1 as Mumbai scored a superb goal in the stoppage time to salvage a point from the game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Mumbai had 54% possession than Kerala’s 46%.
Kerala went into the break with a 1-0 lead
Kerala Blasters FC won the toss and chose their side. Kerala started the game on a good note as early in the third minute as they got the first chance to score a goal. Halicharan drilled the ball across the face of the goal, which found Doungel’s feet, and he had only the keeper to beat. However, Arminder comfortably saved his shot by outstretching his legs. Kerala started to put a lot of pressure on the visitors as they got another good chance in the 14th minute. Poplatnik sided a through ball to Stojanovic and he moved inside the box. However, Lucian Goian slides and blocked it out for a corner. In the 21st minute, Machado’s free-kick from the right found Goian at the far post, but his header went wide of the post. In the 24th minute, the hosts took a 1-0 lead as Doungel received a backheel from Stojanovic on the right and headed it into the path of Narzary. He then blasted it into the goal with one touch at the near post to give his team lead. Finally, the hosts entered the break with a 1-0 lead.
Pranjal’s wonder goal salvages a point for Mumbai
As the second half started most of the time, both sides played the ball in the midfield with less action. In the 64th minute, Mumbai missed a golden chance to equalize the score as Raynier played Issoko through on goal inside the box. He had the full goal at his mercy, but his shot went wide of the near post. A couple of minutes later Narzary sent a cross from the right found Stojanovic outside the box, but his shot from there went wide of the post by a whisker. In the 87th minute, Mumbai failed to score the equalizer as Dheeraj slipped the ball out of his hand and Sougou had an entire goal at his mercy, but his shot went wide of the post by inches. In the added time, Mumbai stunned the hosts by scoring an equalizer from nowhere to steal a point from the game. Pranjal Bhumij fired a shot from 30 yards outside the box into the top right corner, which beat the diving keeper and brought his team on level terms. Finally both the sided settled for a point each from this draw.
