Match 2 of Indian Super League 5, held on Sep 30 ,saw the Chennaiyin FC play against Bengaluru FC.

Bengaluru FC defeated Chennaiyin FC by 1-0 in the first South Indian derby of this edition at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Chennaiyin FC had 56% possession than Bengaluru’s 44%.

Chennaiyin FC won the toss and chose their side. Bengaluru started off the game very well as in the third minute Rahul Bheke’s long throw found Erik Paartalu in the box and he directed a shot towards the near post, but Karanjit was in a good position to make a save. In the 19th minute, the visitors got a superb chance to take a lead after Gregory released a through ball, which found Jeje, and he went for the glory, but his shot went wide off the post. In the 34th minute, the visitors got another opportunity after a poor play from Rahul when he tried to back pass the ball to his teammates, but Jeje intercepted it. Jeje took a touch and got past Sandhu, but the ball went out of the play after he lost his footing. After 2 minutes, Germanpreet got the ball on the right and directed his shot towards the post, but the keeper made a good save, as the shot was straight at the keeper. In the 41st minute, Bengaluru took the lead as Xisco won the ball from the midfield and played a through ball to Miku. He then unleashed a shot towards the top corner from inside the box, which found the back of the net. Finally, Bengaluru went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

As the second half started in the 49th minute Sandhu punched out Nelson’s free-kick from the right, but the ball fell to Calderon who then headed his first time shot towards the goal. However, Mailson tried to backheel, but Sandhu made an easy stop as his shot lacked enough power. In the 57th minute, Jerry was saved from getting a red card after he bought down Udanta in the middle. In the 80th minute, Chennai won a free kick just outside the box after Albert brought down Gregory. Calderon took the shot and tried to place it in the top corner, but his shot went wide off the post. In the added minute Nelson got the ball on the left and unleashed a shot towards the goal, but Sandhu made a good save to deny a goal for them. Finally, Bengaluru defeated the defending champions by 1-0 in a tough game.
