ISL-SEASON 4-FINALS- CHENNAYIN FC emerges victorious against BENGALURU FC
Finals of Indian Super League 4, held on Mar 17, saw the Bengaluru FC play against Chennayin FC.
Chennaiyin FC won the Hero ISL title for the second time after defeating Bengaluru FC by 3-2 in the final at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Mailson Alves brace and Augusto scored for the visitors, on the other hand, Sunil and Miku scored for the hosts. Both the sides had an equal possession of 50%.
Chennai went into the break with a 1 goal advantage
Chennaiyin FC won the toss and chose their side. The hosts began the game on a positive note by attacking the Chennaiyin back-line from the word go. Bengaluru drew the first blood in the 8th minute as Miku played Udanta through in the middle and the latter sent a cross towards the far post which got deflected off Mailson’s foot and found Sunil. He then bent low and placed the ball past the keeper with a superb header. In the 17th minute, Mailson’s goal brought his team back on level terms from a corner. Nelson curled his corner and put the ball in a dangerous position where Alves raised high and powered his header towards the far post.
In the 30th minute, Bheke whipped in a cross which was headed down by a defender, but it fell into the path of Dimas Delgado inside the box and blasted his shot towards the post. However, Inigo was alert enough as he ran to his own goal and was in the right place to head it away from the danger. In the 41st minute Sunil got the ball outside the box and took a touch before firing it towards the goal, but Karanjit made a good save as his shot lacked power. A couple of minutes later Miku fired a shot above the crossbar from the edge of the box. At the stroke of the half-time, the visitors took the lead again from a corner after Nelson put the ball from the right side which found Alves to perfection and he rose high and powered his header inside the far post to give his team a 2-1 lead at the break.
Chennai was crowned in for the 2nd time in ISL after ATK.
As the second half started in the 51st minute Nelson dribbled past Bengaluru’s defense and fired a shot towards the target, but Gurpreet parried it away to his left with ease. In the 67th minute, Chennai extended their lead after Nelson played Jeje through and he passed it short to Raphael after he missed his first touch. Raphael curled his shot towards the bottom right corner from the edge of the box with ease. In the 74th minute, Victor put a ball from the right from a corner which found Sunil and he rose high and headed it towards the goal, but Karanjit made a good save with his right hand.
In the 87th minute, Miku did well to go inside the box and send a low cross and cuts back to Sunil in the middle who had an open goal at his mercy, but his shot skied over the crossbar. In the added time Bengaluru pulled one goal back after Udanta cross from the right went straight to Miku’s head and he blasted it past the keeper. Finally, Chennai edged past the host by 3-2 and was crowned for the 2nd time as Champions in the Hero ISL league.
