ISL-SEASON 4-SEMIFINAL-2-LEG-1-FC GOA VS CHENNAYIN FC
SEMIFINAL 2 -1st Leg of Indian Super League 4, held on Mar 10 ,saw the FC Goa play against Chennayin FC.
FC Goa drew with Chennaiyin FC by 1-1 in the first leg of the second semifinal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. Lanzarote’s gave the hosts an early lead in 2nd half, but super sub-Anirudh scored an equalizer and helped his team to get a crucial away Goa.FC Goa had 63% possession than Chennai’s 37%.
Chennaiyin FC won the toss and chose their side. In the 5th minute, Narayan Das floated in a superb cross at the far post where the keeper tried to punch it away but he missed it. However, Jerry cleared it away from danger in the end. After 3 minutes Fernandes played a superb ball at the near post to Jeje who took a touch and fired a shot, but his shot went across the face of the goal. In the 23rd minute Jerry stepped up to take the free-kick from outside the box, but his shot went straight to the keeper who went low to get a hold on to it. After 5 minutes Corominas unleashed a shot towards the goal from the left side, but his shot was blocked well by Mailson and went away from danger. In the 34th minute, Nelson fired a shot towards the target from inside the box, but it was comfortably collected by the keeper as it was straight to his hands. In the 39th minute Mandar cuts the ball from outside the box and tried to curl it towards the target, but his shot went above the crossbar. At the stroke of the half-time, Nelson tried to slot the ball at the far post, but his shot went wide of the far post. This proved to be the last chance of the first half as both the sides went into the break goalless.
Thapa’s equalizer gives Chennai a crucial away goal
As the second half started Narayan Das tried his luck from a distance but his shot was comfortably saved by Karanjit. A couple of minutes later Mailson played a long ball to Jeje who had only the keeper to beat, but Kattimani came up with a superb save with his feet to deny a goal for the visitors. In the next minute Nelson went past the Goa defense and tried to slot the ball past the keeper, but Kattimani made another wonderful save by stretching his legs. In the 64th minute, Goa took the lead after Mandar squared the ball to Corominas in the middle and his shot was saved by Karanjit. However, the rebound ball fell into the feet of Lanzarote who poked the ball into the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead. After 7 minutes Chennai scored an equalizer as Nelson played a superb pass to Thapa in the middle who took a touch and fired in a low shot past the keeper’s leg to bring his team back on level terms. Goa then started to play patiently by passing the ball among themselves and were waiting for some errors from Chennai. Finally, the match ended in a draw and Chennai will be the more happiest side as they take a crucial away goal into the second leg.
