Match 88 of Indian Super League 4, held on Mar 3 ,saw the Chennayin FC play against Mumbai City FC .

Chennaiyin FC defeated Mumbai City FC by 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Mihelic’s spot kick in the 2nd half was enough for the hosts to seal the 2nd spot in the league table, on the other hand, Mumbai finished their campaign in the 7th spot. Mumbai had 55% possession than Chennai’s 45%.

Goalless half

Mumbai City FC won the toss and chose their side. In the 6th minute, Gavilan sent a good ball inside the box from his free-kick, but the ball was cleared by the keeper with ease. However, the rebound ball found Bikramjit Singh outside the box, but his first-time shot went over the post. In the 13th minute, Zakeer tried his luck from a distance, but his shot was saved by the keeper as it was straight to him. After 4 minutes Gavilan swung the ball from the right and the keeper punched it out which found Mihelic at the edge of the box. He took on this volley and connected well, but his shot went just wide of the post by inches. In the 26th minute Wadoo’s cross from the right was cleared out by the defenders of Chennai, however, the clearance ball fell into Costa’s path and tried his luck from a distance, but his shot went wide of the upright. In the 37th minute, Gavilan cuts from the left and shoot, but Goian slides to take the ball. Raju Gaikwad’s clearance fell into the path of Nworuh who fired a shot towards the goal which got deflected off the keeper before coming off the post. Finally, both the sides went into the break goalless.

Chennai finishes the group stage as the 2nd best team

As the second half started in the 64th minute Nworuh played a low cross to Gavilan who fired a shot towards the far corner, but the keeper made a good save in the end. In the next minute, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Wadoo brought down Gavilan inside the box and Mihelic stepped up to take the spot-kick. He fired a shot after a lot of time and Arindam dived in the right direction, but he was not able to stop the ball from going into the back of the net. In the added time Emana blasted his free-kick towards the goal with a lot of power, but his shot was saved by the keeper as it was straight at him. In the next minute Emana headed a hoofed ball to Costa who then chipped it over the keeper, Balwant then finished it by finding the back of the net, but the flag was raised as Costa was offside. Finally, Chennai won the game by 1-0 and secured the 2nd spot.
