Match 59 of Indian Super League 4, held on Jan 28, saw the FC Goa play against Mumbai City FC.

Mumbai City FC edged FC Goa by 4-3 in a thrilling encounter and was one of the most mouthwatering clash of this season at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Goa. Corominas and Lanzarote scored for the hosts white Everton, Emana, Thiago and Balwant scored for the visitors to fetch maximum points from the game. Goa had 55% possession than Mumbai’s 45%.

Goa went into the break with a 2-1 lead

FC Goa won the toss and chose their side. The home side made a Pacy start to the game as they were trying to attack from both sides and had the possession for the most part of the game in the first 15 minutes. After the 20th minute mark, Mumbai started to do well in the field and was passing ball among their players to keep the ball. The first chance of the game went to the visitors in the 28th minute as Balwant fired a shot from outside the box towards the target, but in the end, the keeper made an easy save who was in good position.

In the 34th minute, Goa got the breakthrough on courtesy of Corominas. He skipped a couple of defenders and made a pass to Mandar on the left and was put through on goal, but his shot was parried away by the keeper. The rebound ball fell to Corominas who pounced on to the loose ball and slotted it into the back of the net.

2 minutes later Mumbai scored an equalizer. Thiago unleashed a shot from the edge of the box which was off target, but it took a wicked deflection off Everton and went into the back of the net. In the added time Mandar sent a cross across the face of the goal after a miscommunication from Sanju and Arminder where Lanzarote was in good position to slot the ball into the empty net. Finally, Goa went into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Mumbai edged Goa in a 7 goal thriller

As the second half started Goa had the chance to double their lead after Corominas fed Mandar with a through ball inside the box, but his shot was saved by the keeper with his leg in the end. After 2 minutes Seriton was given the marching orders after picking up 2nd yellow card in the game and the hosts were reduced to 10 men on the field. In the 50th minute, Lanzarote tried to curl his shot into the top corner from the left, but Arminder saved it by diving to his left to deny a goal for Goa.

In the 53rd minute, Mumbai won a penalty after Mohamed Ali brought down Everton down inside the box. Emana stepped up for the spot-kick and didn’t do any mistake as he tapped it home by sending the keeper to the wrong side and leveled the scores. In the 70th minute, Mumbai took the lead for the first time in the game as Thiago sent a pass to Balwant in the middle, but his shot was saved well by Kattimani. To Goa’s misfortune, the rebound ball fell into the path of Thiago who slotted the ball into the back of the net with ease.

8 minutes later Goa scored an equalizer as Corominas got on to the end of Jahouh’s pass and chipped the ball past the outrushing keeper to bring his team back in the game. In the 86th minute as Everton’s shot beats and took a deflection of Mandar and was going towards the goal. But Balwant slid the ball into the back of the net with his outstretched leg to score a winner for his team. Finally, Mumbai won the game by 4-3 in a thriller and moved to the 5th spot on the table.
