SEMIFINAL-1-DELHI DASHERS VS HYDERABAD HUNTERS

Semi Final 1 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 12, saw the Delhi Dashers play against Hyderabad Hunters.

Hyderabad Hunters defeated Delhi Dashers by 3-0 and booked a placed in the final with 2 matches left in the tie. This is the first time Hunters reached the final in PBL.

Match-1-Mixed Doubles

The first match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s P.Z.Bernadeth/S. Rankireddy and Delhi’s A.Ponnappa/V.Ivanov.
In the first set of the match Hunters picked the first point after Ashwini’s shot went wide. Dashers picked their first point with Ashwini’s smash towards the baseline. Delhi raced to a 4-1 lead after Pia’s shot hit the net. Hunters leveled the scores at 6 points each after Ashwini’s shot hit the net. Delhi went into the break with a 2 point lead after Satwik’s smash found the net. Hunters after the break leveled the scores at 8 points each after Ivanov’s unforced error. Hunters raced to a 13-8 lead after Ivanov’s shot went wide. Delhi brought down the score to 12-13 with Ivanov’s superb cross-court shot. Delhi brought the score to 13-14 with Ashwini’s 337 Kmph smash. Finally, Hunters won the first set by 15-13 with Pia’s cross-court smash.

In the second set of the match, Delhi picked the first point with Ivanov’s big smash. Hunters picked the first point with Pia’s cross-court drop. Delhi leveled the scores at 4 points each with Ashwini’s smash. Delhi once again leveled the scores at 6 points each after Satwik’s shot hit the net. Delhi went into the break with a 2 point lead with Ivanov’s powerful smash. Hunters after the break prevailed in a 24 shot rally with Satwik’s stunning smash. Delhi then raced to a 13-8 lead after Pia’s unforced error. Finally, Delhi won the set by 15-10 with Ivanov’s forehand winner and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Delhi picked the first point on courtesy of Ashwini’s forehand shot. Hunters picked the first point after Ashwini’s shot went long.Delhi raced to a 5-2 lead with Ashwini’s good smash. Hunters brought down the score to 5-6 after Ivanov’s couple of errors at the net. Delhi went into the break with a 3 point lead after Ivanov’s lob hit the net. Hunters brought the score to 7-8 after the break with Pia’s cross-court shot. Delhi increased their lead to 13-9 with Ashwini’s good pass. Finally, Delhi won the match and set by 15-10 after Pia’s unforced error. Delhi drew the first blood in the semifinal 1 and picked the first points on the board.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The second match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s B.S.Praneeth and Delhi’s T. Houwei, where Praneeth is the World No 16 and Houwei is the World No 22.It was a trump match for Delhi Dashers.

In the first set of the match, Praneeth raced to a 3-1 lead after Tian’s smash down the middle was called inside. Tian leveled the scores at 3 points each after Praneeth’s smash hit the net. Praneeth raced to a 6-3 lead with a cross-court smash. Praneeth went into the break with a huge lead of 5 points with a smash down the line. Praneeth increased his lead to 9-3 with a 413 Kmph cross-court smash. Praneeth further increased his lead to 13-9 with a cross-court smash. Finally, Praneeth won the set by 15-9 after Tian’s shot went long.

In the second set Praneeth picked the first point with a beautiful drop, on the other hand, Tian picked his first point with a smash down the line. Praneeth increased his lead to 6-3 after Tian’s poor judgment on Praneeth’s shot which called in. Tian was brought the score to 5-6 after Praneeth’s backhand shot hit the net. Praneeth went into the break with a 3 point lead after Tian’s unforced error. Tian brought the deficit to 2 points after Praneeth’s shot hit the net. Praneeth started to run away with the game as he raced to a whopping 14-8 lead after Tian’s unforced error. Finally, Praneeth won the set by 15-8 after Tian’s shot went wide. Praneeth won against the trump and helped his team to lead by 1-0 against Delhi in this tie.

Match-3-Women’s Singles

The third match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s C.Marin and Delhi’s S.J.Hyun, where Marin is the World No 4 and Hyun is the World No 6.It was a trump match for Hyderabad Hunters.

In the first set of the match, Hyun picked the first point after Marin’s shot went wide. Marin leveled the scores at 2 points each after Sung’s shot hit the net and leveled once again at 3 after Sung’s unforced error. Sung then raced to a 6-3 lead after Marin’s shot went wide. Sung went into the break with a 4 point lead after Marin’s unforced error. After the break, Sung increased her lead to 11-6 after Marin’s shot went wide. Marin reduced down the deficit to 3 points with a cross-court drop. Finally, Sung won the set by 15-12 after Sung’s shot fell inside the court. This is the first time Marin lost a set in PBL season 3.

In the second set of the match, Marin raced to an early 3-0 lead after her shot landed inside the line. Marin increased her lead to 5-1 after Sung’s shot hit the net. Sung brought down the score to 6-7 with Marin’s unforced error. Marin went into the break with a 2 point lead with Marin’s 337 Kmph smash down the line. After the break Sung reduced down the deficit to 2 points after Marin’s shot went wide. Marin prevailed in a 24 shot rally after she placed the shot into the open court. Marin increased her lead to 13-9 with a good cross-court drop. Finally, Marin won the set by 15-10 after Sung’s shot went wide and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Sung picked the first point after Marin’s shot caught the net. Marin picked her first point with her smash down the line. Marin increased her lead to 6-3 with a cross-court smash. Marin headed into the break with a huge lead of 5 points after Sung’s unforced error. After the break, Marin increased her lead to 11-4 after Song’s smash went wide off the baseline. Marin increased her lead further to 13-7 with an overhead smash. Finally, Marin won the set and match by 15-9 with a smash down the line. This win gave a place for Hunters in the final with a lead of 3-0 in the tie.
