TIE-20-BENGALURU BLASTERS VS HYDERABAD HUNTERS

TIE 20 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 11, saw the Bengaluru Blasters play against Hyderabad Hunters.

Hyderabad Hunters were on a rampage against Bengaluru Blasters as they whitewashed them by 6-(-1) in the final league game and moved to the top spot on the table.

Match-1-Mixed Doubles

The first match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s P.Z.Bernadeth/S. Rankireddy and Bengaluru’s N.S.Reddy/M. Attri.

In the first set of the match, Hyderabad picked the first point after Sikki’s bad serve. Hyderabad raced to a 3-1 lead after Attri’s shot found the net. Hyderabad increased their lead to 6-2 after an error from Sikki. Hyderabad entered into the break with a huge lead of 6 points after Attri was not able to return to Bernadet’s backhand shot. After the break, Hyderabad started to run away with the game as they raced to a 12-3 lead after Sikki’s shot went long.Finally, Hyderabad won the first set with Satwik’s stunning smash down the middle.

In the second set of the match, Bengaluru opened the account with Bernadet’s error. Hunters opened the account with Satwik’s smash. Hunters raced to a 5-3 lead with Satwik’s huge smash. Hunters increased their lead to 7-5 with Satwik’s 377 Kmph smash. Blasters leveled the scores at 7 points each after Satwik’s smash hit the net. Bengaluru went into the break with a 1 point lead after Satwik’s shot hit the net. Hunters leveled the scores at 10 points each after confusion among Bengaluru’s players.Hunters raced to a 14-11 lead with Satwik’s beautiful deft touch. Blasters leveled the scores at 14 points each after Bernadet’s error. Finally, Blasters won the set by 15-14 and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Hunters opened the account first after Attri’s shot hit the net. Hunters raced to a 4-o lead with Satwik’s smash. Bengaluru picked their first point of the set with Sikki’s overhead smash. Hunters went into the break with an 8-2 lead. After the break Hunters raced to a 12-4 lead with Sikki’s bad error. Bengaluru brought the deficit to 5 points with Attri’s good smash. Finally, Hunters won the set and match by 15-9 with ease and Sikki suffered her first loss of this season.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The second match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s B.S.Praneeth and Bengaluru’s C.W.Feng, where Praneeth is the World No 16 and Feng is the World No 45.

In the first set of the match, Sai won the first point with a low return. Feng got the better of Praneeth in a 28 shot rally after Praneeth’s shot hit the net. Praneeth leveled the scores at 5 points each after Feng’s error at the net. Praneeth went into the break with a 2 point lead. After the break Feng leveled the scores at 10 points each with a smash in open court. Feng raced to a 14-10 lead with a beautiful drop near the net. Feng won the first set by 15-10 comfortably.

In the second set, Praneeth leveled the scores at 2 points each with a forehand shot. Praneeth raced to a 4-2 lead after Feng’s shot went out. Feng brought down the score to 6-7 after Praneeth’s shot went outside tram line. Praneeth went into the break with a 2 point lead. After the break, Praneeth increased his lead to 11-6 with a deceptive push from the net. Praneeth won the set comfortably by 15-7 after Feng’s error and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Feng got the better of Sai in a 35 shot rally after an unforced error by Sai. Sai won the first point of the decider with a forehand shot. Feng raced to a 5-3 lead after Sai’s sot went long. Sai leveled the scores at 7 points each and went into the break with a 1 point lead. Sai got the better of Feng in a 20 shot rally after Feng’s cross-court shot went wide. Feng brought down the score to 12-13 after Sai’s shot went long.Feng leveled the scores at 14 points each after Sai’s misjudgment.Finally, Sai won the set and match by 15-14 after Feng’s shot hit the net.

Match-3-Women’s Singles

The third match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s C.Marin and Bengaluru’s K. Gilmour, where Marin is the World No 4 and Gilmour is the World No 16.

In the first set of the match, Marin got her first point after Gilmour’s shot hit the net. Gilmour leveled the scores at 2 points each with a good smash. Marin raced to a 5-2 lead after Gilmour’s jump smash went wide. Marin went into the break with a 4 point lead after Gilmour’s shot went long. Gilmour brought down the score to 7-9 with Marin’s error. Marin raced to a 13-7 lead with a beautiful drop. Finally, Marin won the set by 15-9 after Gilmour’s bad serve.

In the second set of the game, Gilmour picked the first point after an error from Marin and raced to a 2-0 lead after Marin’s shot went wide. Marin leveled the scores at 3 points each after Gilmour’s error. Marin raced to a 7-4 lead with a great drop. Marin went into the break with a 3 point lead with Gilmour’s unforced error. Marin after the break increased her lead to 12-6 after Gilmour’s smash hit the net. Finally, Marin won the set and match by 15-7 comfortably after Gilmour’s smash went long. Hyderabad lead Bengaluru by 3-0 in this tie.

Match-4-Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s L.H.Il and Bengaluru’s S. Dey, where Lee is the World No 18 and Dey is the World No 63. It was a trump match for Hyderabad Hunters.

In the first set of the match, Lee opened his account after Dey’s slip up. Lee increased his lead to 4-1 with a smash down the line. Lee further increased his lead to 7-2 after Dey’s shot went long and went into the break with a huge lead of 6 points. Lee raced to an 11-7 lead with a smash down the line. Dey brought down the score to 9-12 with a 413 Kmph cross-court smash. Finally, Lee won the set by 15-11 after Dey’s shot went far.

In the second set of the match, Lee picked the first point with a big smash. Lee raced to a 4-0 lead after Dey’s shot hit the net. Dey picked his first point of the set after Lee’s error. Dey got the better of Lee in a 30 shot rally and went into the break with a 3 point lead and picked up 8 consecutive points on a trot. After the break, Dey increased his lead to 11-6 after Lee’s error. Lee brought down the score to 11-12 with a good backhand shot. Finally, Dey won the set by 15-11 after a superb comeback and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Lee opened the account with Dey’s error. Lee raced to a 3-0 lead with a great smash. Dey opened his account in the decider with a smash in the open space. Lee went into the break with a 5 point lead with a smash down the line. After the break, Dey brought down the score to 7-9 after Lee’s shot hit the net. Lee increased his lead to 12-9 with a smash down the line. Finally, Lee won the game by 15-11 and won the tie as well as the trump match for his team.

Match-5-Men’s Doubles

The final match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s M. Kido/Y.Y.Seong and Bengaluru’s K.S.Rang/M. Boe. It was a trump match for Bengaluru Blasters.

In the first set of the match Hunters picked the first point after Boe’s shot went wide. Hunters leveled the scores at 4 points each after Boe’s shot went wide. Blasters went into the break with a 3 point lead with Boe’s smash down the line. Hunters leveled the scores at 9 points each after Rang’s return went wide. Hunters raced to a 12-10 lead with Seong’s super hit. Finally, Hunters took the first set by 15-10 on courtesy of some good shots.

In the second set of the match, Hunters opened the account after Boe’s error. Hunters leveled the scores at 5 points each with Seong’s drop. Blasters raced to a 7-5 lead with Seong’s error and headed into the break with a 3 point lead. Hunters brought the score to 9-13 after Rang’s error. Blasters raced to a 14-10 lead on courtesy of Boe’s great shot. Finally, Blasters won the set by 15-11 and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Blasters picked the first point. Hunters raced to a 4-1 lead after Blasters series of errors. Hunters increased their lead to 7-2 with Seong’s backhand shot. Hunters went into the break with a huge lead of 6 points. Blasters got the better of Hunters in a 33 shot rally after Seong’s shot hit the net. Hunters raced to an 11-4 lead with Kido’s good pass. Finally, Hunters won the set and match by 15-7 with ease and won against the trump. Hyderabad whitewashed Blasters by 6-(-1)
