TIE-19-DELHI DASHERS VS NORTH EASTERN WARRIORS

TIE 19 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 10, saw the Delhi Dashers play against North Eastern Warriors.

Delhi Dashers defeated North Eastern Warriors by 4-1 and sealed a semifinal berth with a thumping victory. With this win, Delhi moved to the 2nd spot in the table, while North East ended their season on a disastrous note.

Match-1-Mixed Doubles

The first match of the tie was between Delhi’s V.Ivanov/A. Ponnappa and Northeast’s M.Li/S.B.Cheol.

In the first set of the game, Delhi raced to a 3-0 lead with Ivanov’s smash. Warriors picked their first point of the set after Ashwini’s error near the net. Warriors leveled the scores at 5 points each after Ashwini’s shot went long.Delhi went into the break with a 2 point lead after Li’s return from the service hit the net. Warriors after the break leveled the scores at 8 points each after Ashwini’s shot went long.Warriors raced to a 14-9 lead after Ivanov’s shot hit the net. Delhi brought down the score to 13-14 after Li and Cheol missed their shot. Finally, Warriors won the set by 15-13 after Ashwini’s smash hit the net

In the second set of the game, Warriors picked the first point with Li’s beautiful cross-court drop. Delhi leveled the scores at 2 points each after Li’s shot went wide. Warriors raced to a 6-3 lead after a poor return from Ashwini which allowed Li to send a powerful smash. Warriors went into the break with a 5 point lead after Ivanov’s return went out. Warriors increased their lead to 11-5 with Cheol’s cross-court smash. Delhi brought down the score to 10-13 with Ashwini’s forehand shot. Finally, Warriors won the game and set by 15-11 in style after Ashwini’s unforced error.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The second match of the tie was between Delhi’s W.W.K.Vincent and Northeast’s A. Jayaram, where Vincent is the World No 15 and Ajay is the World No 38.

In the first set of the game, Ajay raced to a 3-1 lead with a beautiful drop into the open court. Vincent leveled the scores at 5 points each after Ajay’s unforced error. Ajay leveled the scores at 6 points each after Vincent’s unforced error. Vincent went into the break with a 2 point lead with a cross-court smash. Jayaram leveled the scores at 9 points each with a 391 Kmph smash. Vincent leveled the scores at 11 points each with a 393 Kmph smash. Vincent raced to a 13-12 lead after Ajay’s lob went long.Finally, Vincent won the first set by 15-13 with a cross-court smash.

In the second set of the game, Ajay picked the first point after Vincent’s shot hit the net. Ajay raced to a 5-3 lead with a smash down the line. Vincent raced to a 6-5 lead with a smash straight to Ajay and his return found the net. Ajay raced to a 7-6 lead with a huge 408 Kmph smash. Ajay went into the break with a 2 point lead after Vincent’s shot went wide. Jayaram after the break increased the lead to 10-6 after Vincent’s shot went way wide. Vincent reduced the deficit to 3 points after Ajay’s shot went long.Finally, Ajay won the set by 15-10 after Vincent’s smash hit the net and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Vincent picked the first point after Ajay’s shot hit the net. Ajay picked his first point in similar fashion after Vincent’s shot hit the net. Vincent leveled the scores at 2 points with a 400 Kmph smash. Vincent got the better of Ajay in a 24 shot rally after Ajay’s shot hit the net. Ajay leveled the scores at 7 points each with a brilliant smash. Vincent went into the break with a slender lead after a good defense by both the players, but in the end, Ajay’s shot hit the net. After the break, Vincent raced to an 11-7 lead. Ajay brought down the lead to 13-12 with a deceptive drop near the net. Finally, Vincent won the match and set by 15-12 after Ajay’s shot went wide. This win helped Delhi to level the points at 1 in this tie.

Match-3-Men’s Singles

The third match of the tie was between Delhi’s T. Houwei and Northeast’s W.T.Wei, where Tian is the World No 22 and Wei is the World No 11.It was a trump match for North Eastern Warriors.

In the first set of the game, Wang raced to a 2-1 lead after Tian’s shot went wide. Tian then raced to a 6-5 lead with a superb smash down the wide. Tian went into the break with a 3 point lead with a smash near the net. Tian increased his lead to 11-8 after Wang’s shot hit the net. Tian further increased his lead to 14-8 after Wang’s shot found the net. Finally, Tian won the set comfortably by 15-10.

In the second set of the game, Tian raced to a 4-2 lead after Wang’s shot went out. Wang then played superbly and raced to a 7-4 lead after Tian’s shot caught the net. Wang headed into the break with a 3 point lead with a huge smash near the line. Wang after the break raced to an 11-5 after an unforced error by Tian. Wang increased his lead to a 14-8 with a brilliant smash. Finally, Wang won the set by 15-8 after an unforced error by Tian and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Wang raced to a 2-0 lead after he placed a shot in an open court. Tian leveled the scores at 2 points each with a smash down the line. Wang increased his lead to 5-2 with a smash to the left of Tian. Wang went into the break with a huge lead of 6 points. After the break, Wang increased his lead to 10-4 with a smash down the wide. Tian brought down the score to 9-11 with a 403 Kmph smash down the line and he leveled the scores at 11 points each after an unforced error by Wang. Tian increased his lead to 13-11 after Wang’s shot went wide. Finally, Tian won the set and match by 15-11 with a forehand smash. This was an amazing comeback by him and won the game against the trump in style.

Match-4-Women’s Singles

The fourth match of the tie was between Delhi’s S.J.Hyun and Northeast’s M.Li, where Hyun is the World No 6 and Li is the World No 21. It was a trump match for Delhi Dashers.

In the first set of the game, Sung leveled the scores at 2 points each after Li’s misjudgment near the baseline. Sung raced to a 6-3 lead with a superb smash down the line. Sung got the better of Li in a 31 shot rally after her shot fell near the net and went into the break with a 3 point lead. After the break, Sung increased her lead to 11-7 with a good cross-court drop. Sung further increased her lead to a 13-10 after Li’s shot went wide.Li leveled the scores at 13 points each after Sung’s overhead smash went wide. Finally, Li won the first set by 15-13 with a cross-court shot.

In the second set of the game, Sung raced to a 2-1 lead after Li’s cross-court shot went wide.Li brought down the score to 5-6 after Sung’s lob went wide. Sung went into the break with a 3 point lead.Li after the break leveled the scores at 8 points each after Sung’s shot hit the net. Sung got the better of Li in a 24 shot rally after Li’s smash hit the net. Sung increased her lead to 13-10 with a stunning smash. Finally, Sung won the set by 15-11 after Sung’s shot fell inside the baseline and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Li opened the account with a beautiful drop shot. Sung raced to a 4-2 lead with a superb cross-cut shot. Sung further increased her lead to 7-4 after Li’s shot hit the net. Sung went into the break with a 4 point lead with a forehand shot.Li brought down the score to 10-11 with a 297 Kmph smash.Li got the better of Sung in a 39 shot rally after Sung’s overhead shot went long.Li leveled the scores at 13 points each after an unforced error by Sung. Finally, Sung won the set and match by 15-13 after Li’s drop found the net. This win in trump match ensured a place for Delhi in the Semi-Finals.

Match-5-Men’s Doubles

The final match of the tie was between Delhi’s V.Ivanov/I.Sozonov and Northeast’s S.B.Cheol/K.G.Jung.

In the first set of the game, Warriors raced to a 2-0 lead with Cheol’s overhead smash. Cheol leveled the scores at 3 points each with a smash at the net. Then the lead kept on fluctuating on either side. Delhi went into the break with a 2 point lead after Jung’s shot hit the net. Warriors leveled the scores at 9 points each after Sozonov’s shot hit the net. Delhi raced to a 13-9 lead with Sozonov’s drop shot. Finally, Delhi won the set by 15-9 with Sozonov’s smash at the net.

In the second set of the match, Warriors raced to a 2-0 lead after Sozonov’s shot hit the net. Delhi picked their first point after Cheol’s shot went wide. Warriors increased their lead to 7-3 after Sozonov’s shot hit the net. Warriors went into the break with a 3 point lead. After the break Warriors increased their lead to 11-6 after Ivanov’s shot went wide. Delhi reduced the deficit to 3 points with Ivanov’s huge smash. Finally, Warriors won the set by 15-10 and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Delhi raced to a 3-3 lead with Ivanov’s smash down the middle. Warriors raced to a 7-5 lead after Sozonov’s unforced error. Delhi leveled the scores at 7 points each after Jung’s shot went wide. Warriors went into the break with a 1 point lead with a power smash from Cheol. After the break, Delhi reduced the deficit to 1 point with Ivanov’s smash down the middle. Warriors raced to a 13-8 lead with Sozonov’s unforced error. Finally, Warriors won the set and match by 15-9 after Ivanov’s shot went wide. This win gave a consolation victory for the debutants in this season.
