TIE-16-AWADHE WARRIORS VS HYDERABAD HUNTERS

TIE 16 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 7 , saw the Awadhe Warriors play against Hyderabad Hunters.

Hyderabad was on a rampage against Awadhe as they trounced Awadhe by 6-(-1) in the tie and moved to the tops spot on the table. Awadhe finished their league stage on a disappointing note.

Match-1-Men’s Doubles

The first match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s M. Kido/Y.Y.Seong and Awadhe’s O.C.Chung/T.C.Man.
In the first set of the match, Hyderabad picked the first point after Chung’s unforced error. Awadhe prevailed in a 29 shot rally after a delicate drop from Man.Hunters raced to a 3-2 lead with Seong’s 350 Kmph. Awadhe leveled the scores at 7 points each after an unforced error from Kido. Hunters went into the break with a 1 point lead. Awadhe leveled the scores at 10 points each after Seong’s unforced error. Awadhe raced to a 14-10 lead after Kido’s shot hit the net. Hyderabad leveled the scores at 14 points each in a 43 shot rally after an unforced error from Awadhe. Finally, Awadhe won the set by 15-14 in a close encounter with Tang’s smash.

In the second set of the game, Hunters got the better of Awadhe in a 34 shot rally with Seong’s smash. Hunters raced to a 7-2 lead with Seong’s 371 Kmph smash. Hunters went into the break with a huge lead of 2 points after Chung’s return to Kido’s smash went long.Hunters after the break raced to a whopping 13-2 lead with Seong’s cross-court shot. Finally, Hunters won the set comfortably by 15-5 after Chung’s shot went wide and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Hunters leveled the scores at 1 point each with Kido’s powerful smash. Awadhe raced to a 6-4 lead after Kido’s return went wide. Hunters then restored their lead to 7-6 after Chung’s return hit the net after Seong’s 380 Kmph smash. Hunters went into the break with a 2 point lead after Seong’s smash down the line. Hunters raced to an 11-6 lead after Tang’s shot went wide. Awadhe brought down the lead to 14-11 after Seong’s smash hit the net. Finally, Hunters won the match by 15-11 after Tang’s shot hit the net. Hunters drew the first blood in the tie.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The second match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s L.H.Il and Awadhe’s P. Kashyap, where Lee is the world No 18 and Kashyap is World No 54.

In the first set of the match, Lee leveled the scores at 1 point each after Kashyap’s shot went wide. Kashyap then raced to a 6-4 lead after Lee’s overhead smash hit the net. Kashyap got the better of Lee in a 34 shot rally after Lee’s cross-court shot went wide. Kashyap entered into the break with a 4 point lead. Lee brought down the score to 10-11 with a cross-court smash. Kashyap got the better of Lee in a 46 shot rally after Lee’s unforced error at the net. Lee leveled the scores at 13 points each after Kashyap’s unforced error. Finally, Kashyap won the set by 15-13 after Lee’s shot went wide.

In the second set of the match, Lee raced to a 2-0 lead after Kashyap’s unforced error at the net. Kashyap picked up his first point of the set with a cross-court shot. Lee then raced to a 5-1 lead after a good play by him. Lee went into the break with a 5 point lead after Kashyap’s shot went wide. Kashyap brought down the score to 6-8 after Lee’s smash hit the net. Lee raced to a 14-7 lead with a cross-court smash. Finally, Lee won the set by 15-9 with a forehand shot and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Lee raced to a 2-0 lead after Kashyap’s overhead smash went wide. Lee raced to a 5-2 lead with a good cross-court smash. Lee then headed into the break with a 5 point lead with a cross-court smash. Lee increased his lead to further 11-5 with a cross-court smash and was running away with the game. Lee further increased his lead to 14-8 with a smash down the line. But Kashyap got the better of Lee in a 25 shot rally after his shot hit the net. Kashyap leveled the scores at 14 points each with a forehand shot. Finally, Lee won the set and match by 15-14 in a tight encounter after Kashyap’s drop shot hit the net.

Match-3-Men’s Singles

The third match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s B.S.Praneeth and Awadhe’s K. Srikanth, where Srikanth is the World No 3 and Praneeth is the World No 16.It was a trump match for Awadhe Warriors.

In the first set of the match, Srikanth picked the first point after Praneeth’s shot went long. Praneeth raced to a 5-3 lead after Srikanth missed the line by a whisker. Srikanth leveled the scores at 5 points each with a backhand cross-court shot. Srikanth went into the break with a 2 point lead with a deft drop. Praneeth leveled the scores at 8 points each after Srikanth’s shot went wide. Praneeth raced to a 12-8 lead after Srikanth’s shot went wide. Finally, Praneeth won the set by 15-10 after Srikanth’s shot went long.

In the second set of the game, Praneeth raced to a 3-0 lead after Srikanth’s shot went too long.He further increased his lead to 5-0 lead with a superb smash down the line. Praneeth went into the break with an 8-0 lead after Praneeth’s lob fell inside the court. Srikanth picked his first point after Praneeth’s shot hit the net. Srikanth brought down the score to 8-12 with 355 Kmph smash down the line. Finally, Praneeth won the match against the trump by 15-9 in style after Srikanth’s shot went long.This win helped Hunters to clinch the tie.

Match-4-Women’s Singles

The fourth match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s C.Marin and Awadhe’s S. Nehwal, Where Marin is the World No 4 and Saina is the World No 10.It was a trump match for Hyderabad Hunters.

In the first set of the match, Saina picked the first point of the game with a good shot. Marin leveled the scores at 1 point each with a cross-court smash and raced to a 3-1 lead with a forehand shot. Marin headed into the break with a 6 point lead with a low smash down the line. Marin raced to a 10-4 lead in a 21 shot rally after Saina’s shot went out. Finally, Marin won the set with ease by 15-5 after Saina’s return went long.

In the second set of the game, Saina raced to a 2-0 lead with a stunning shot. Marin got the better of Saina in a 27 shot rally with a forehand shot and reduced the deficit to 1 point. Marin increased the lead to 6-4 after Saina’s shot went long. Marin went into the break with a 4 point lead after Saina’s unforced error. Marin after the break raced to a 12-7 lead with a 263 Kmph forehand smash down the line. Finally, Marin won the match and set comfortably by 15-7 in the trump game against Saina. She wrapped up the game in less than 25 minutes. Hunters lead Awadhe by 5-(-1) in the tie.

Match-5-Mixed Doubles

The final match of the tie was between Hyderabad’s P.Z.Bernadeth/S. Rankireddy and Awadhe’s H.Setiawan/C. Pedersen.

In the first set of the match, Hunters leveled the scores at 3 points each after Setiawan’s shot went wide. Hunters raced to a 5-3 lead after Pedersen’s shot went wide. Hunters went into the break with a 4 point lead with Bernadette’s smash. Awadhe brought down the score to 7-9 after Setiawan’s cross-court shot. Hunters raced to a 12-7 lead after Setiawan’s shot went long. Setiawan brought down the deficit to 4 points with his cross-court shot. Finally, Hunters won the first set by 15-9 after Reddy’s powerful smash.

In the second set of the match, Hunters raced to an early 2-0 lead with Reddy’s deadly smash. Hunters raced to a 6-2 lead with Reddy’s wrist shot went into the space. Awadhe brought down the score to 5-7 after Reddy’s shot went long. Awadhe leveled the scores at 7 points each with Setiawan’s delicate drop from the baseline. Hunters went into the break after Reddy’s shot hit a winner inside the baseline. Hunters raced to a 13-9 lead with Reddy’s 345 Kmph smash. Finally, Hunters won the set and match by 15-9 with ease on courtesy of Bernadette cross-court shot. Hunters white washed Awadhe and it turned out to be a disastrous encounter.
