Match 42 of Indian Super League 4, held on Jan 7 ,saw the Atletico De Kolkata play against Bengaluru FC.

Bengaluru FC defeated ATK at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. Sunil Chhetri’s strike at the stroke of the half-time was enough for the home side to fetch maximum points from the game and move to the top spot on the table.ATK had 54% possession than Bengaluru’s 46%.

Chhetri’s strike helped the home team go into break with 1-0 lead

ATK won the toss and chose their side. In the 2nd minute, Edu Garcia’s corner fell into the path of Sunil and his onetime volley was blocked by Tom Thorpe.2 minutes later another corner fell in the middle of the box and Juanan’s shot went wide off the post. In the 6th minute, a free-kick fell once again into the path of Juanan, but his shot went high and wide off the post. Bengaluru started attacking and was building a lot of pressure on the visitors. In the 16th minute, Zequinha from the center tried to find Prabir who was running from outside and he chips in the ball towards the goal, but it went over outstretched Prabir and fell into the hands of host’s keeper.

In the 26th minute, Zequinha from the left shoots the ball to Robin and he headed it towards the face of the goal to Nongrum. His shot was then collected by keeper safely as his shot was lacking accuracy and power.3 minutes later Edu Garcia floated a long ball from the free-kick which found the head of Erik Paartalu at the far post. His shot hit the post and reflected back to Rahul, his shot was cleared safely by Shankar. In the 40th minute, the hosts finally broke the deadlock on courtesy of Sunil’s brilliant effort. A mistimed pass from Thomas saw Chhetri pouncing towards the ball and he fired a venomous shot from outside the box and the keeper didn’t have any chance to stop it. Finally, the home side went into the break with a 1 goal advantage.

Bengaluru moves to the top spot

As the 2nd half started Robbie got the ball from the corner outside the box and he played a through ball to Nongrum. He whipped in a cross to Thrope, whose header was cleared off comfortably by Rahul in the middle. In the 59th minute Thomas passed the ball to Keane in the middle, he then went past two defenders and unleashed a shot towards the goal, but Gurpreet saved it by diving to his right. However the rebound ball found Bipin, who fired a shot from the spot, but his shot went wide off the post.

2 minutes later ATK defender intercepted in the middle when Delgado tried to play a through ball to Sunil. The ball fell into the feet of Miku, whose first time shot was saved by Debjit who made a sliding save with his legs to deny a goal. In the 79th minute Nobrega made a good run and went past Tom in the box, but his shot went just wide off the post. In the 82nd minute, Erik passed a delightful ball to Garcia in the middle, his shot was cleared safely by ATK’s defender. Finally, Bengaluru won the game by 1-0 and move to the top spot in the table.
