TIE 15 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 6, saw the Chennai Smashers play against Ahmedabad Smash Masters.

Chennai Smashers trumps Ahmedabad smash Masters by 2-1 on courtesy of Sindhu’s brilliant performance. Both the sides lost their trump match in Men’s singles.

Match-1-Men’s Doubles

The first match of the day was between Chennai’s C. Adcock/Y.Lee vs and Ahmedabad’s L.C.H.Reginald/K. Nandagopal

In the first set of the game, Chennai took the first point of the night after Reginald’s shot hit the net. Chennai raced to an early lead of 3-1 on courtesy of Adcock’s good shots. Masters took the lead to 5-3 after Lee’s shot hit the net. Smashers leveled the scores at 5 points each with Adcock’s cross-court shot. Smash Masters took a slender lead of 1 point during the break. After the break, Ahmedabad raced to a 10-7 lead after Reginald’s forehand shot down the line. Chennai brought down the lead to 9-10 after Nandagopal’s shot went long.Chennai brought down the deficit to 1 point after Reginald’s unforced error. Finally, Ahmedabad won the first set by 15-13 after Lee’s shot went wide.

In the second set of the game, Chennai raced to a 2-0 lead after Reginald’s shot went long.Chennai increased their lead to 6-2 after Nandagopal’s shot went long when he tried to hit Adcock’s smash. Ahmedabad reduced the deficit to 2 points after Lee’s smash went wide. Chennai went into the break with a 3 point lead after Nandagopal’s cross-shot hit the net. After the break Masters took the lead after an unforced error by Lee. Masters increased their lead to 13-11 after Nandagopal’s super smash. Finally, Masters won the match by 15-13 after an unforced error by Chennai.

Match-2-Women’s Singles

The second match of the day was between Chennai’s P.V.Sindhu and Ahmedabad’s T.T.Ying, where P.V.Sindhu is the World No 3 and Ying is the World No 1.

In the first set of the game, Ying picked the first point after Sindhu’s shot hit the net. Sindhu leveled the scores at 1 point each with a huge smash. Ying raced to a huge 7-2 lead after Sindhu’s shot went wide. Sindhu brought down the lead to 5-7 after an unforced error by Ying. Ying went into the break with a 3 point lead after Sindhu’s shot went long. Sindhu leveled the scores at 10 points with a brilliant cross-court smash from the baseline. Sindhu picked up 6 points on a trot and raced to a 12-10 lead after an unforced error by Ying. Ying got the better of Sindhu in a 26 shot rally with a cross-court shot. Finally, Sindhu won the set in style by 15-11.

In the second set, Sindhu raced to a 2-0 lead after Sindhu’s good dribble at the net. Ying leveled the scores at 2 points each after Sindhu’s shot went wide. Ying played brilliantly and once again leveled the scores at 5 points each after Sindhu’s shot hit the net. Ying headed into the break with a 2 point lead after an unforced error by Sindhu. After the break, Sindhu equalized the scores at 8 points each. Ying raced to a 13-8 lead after Sindhu’s backhand cross-court shot went wide. Finally, Ying won the set by 15-10 after her shot hit the net and bounced inside Sindhu’s court and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Sindhu raced to a 2-0 lead after Ying’s shot went long. Ying got the better of Sindhu in a 41 shot rally with a cross-court shot and reduced the deficit to 1 point. Ying leveled the scores at 5 points each after Sindhu’s shot went long. Sindhu went into the break with a slender lead of 2 points. Sindhu leveled the scores at 10 points each after Ying’s backhand shot went wide. Sindhu prevailed in a 25 shot rally after Ying’s unforced error. Finally, Sindhu won the match by 15-12 in a close encounter after Ying’s unforced error. This win helped Chennai to level the scores in the tie.

Match-3-Men’s Singles

The third match of the day was between Chennai’s B. Leverdez and Ahmedabad’s S. Verma, where Brice is the World No 24 and Verma is the World No 49 and it was a trump match for Chennai Smashers.

In the first set of the game, Sourabh raced to a whopping 4-0 lead after Brice shot hit the net. Sourabh increased the lead to 2-7 after Brice’s cross-court shot hit the net. Brice brought down the deficit to 1 point with his drop shot. Sourabh headed into the break with a 2 point lead. Brice leveled the scores at 8 points each after the break with a cross-court smash. Then the lead kept on fluctuation on either side. Brice raced to a 13-11 lead after Sourabh’s drop shot found the net. Finally, Brice won the set by 15-12.

In the second set of the match, Brice picked the first point after Sourabh’s shot went wide. Brice raced to a 4-1 lead after Sourabh’s shot went out. Brice went into the break with a 4 point lead. Brice raced to a 10-6 lead after the break with a powerful smash. He further increased the lead to 13-9 after Sourabh’s shot went wide. Sourabh brought the lead to 13-14 after Brice’s shot went wide. Finally, Sourabh won the set by 15-14 after Brice’s unforced error and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Sourabh took the first point with a forehand shot. Brice leveled the scores at 3 points each with a forehand winner. Sourabh then raced to a 5-3 lead after Brice’s unforced error. Brice once again leveled the scores at 5 points each with a powerful smash. Sourabh leveled the scores ta 7 points each after Brice’s shot went long.Brice went into the break with a 1 point lead after Sourabh’s unforced error. After the break, Sourabh brought the score on level terms after Brice’s shot went wide. Sourabh raced to a 14-12 lead after Brice’s shot found the net. Finally, Sourabh won the match by 15-12 after Brice’s shot went wide. It was a brilliant comeback by the Indian and won the match against the trump.

Match-4-Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the day was between Chennai’s T. Saensomboonsuk and Ahmedabad’s H.S.Prannoy, Where Prannoy is the World No 10 and Saensomboonsuk is the World No 17.It was a trump match for Ahmedabad Smash Masters.

In the first set of the game, Tanongsak picked the first point of the match. Tanongsak raced to a 3-0 lead with a smash down the line. Prannoy brought down the deficit to 1 point after an unforced error by Tanongsak. Tanongsak entered into the break with a 4 point lead after an unforced error by Prannoy. After the break, Prannoy brought down the lead to 7-10 after Tanongsak’s smash found the net. Tanongsak raced to a 14-9 lead after Prannoy’s cross-court drop went wide. Finally, Tanongsak won the set comfortably by 15-10 after Prannoy’s shot hit the net.

In the second set of the match, Prannoy picked the first pint with a ferocious smash. Tanongsak leveled the scores at 2 points each with a powerful smash. Tanongsak leveled once again the scores at 5 points each after Prannoy’s shot went long. Prannoy went into the break with a 3 point lead. Tanongsak after the break took the lead to 9-8 after Prannoy’s drop hit the net. Prannoy leveled the scores at 10 points each after Tanongsak’s shot went wide off the line. Prannoy raced to a 13-11 lead after Tanongsak’s error. Finally, Prannoy won the set by 15-12 after Tanongsak’s shot went wide and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Prannoy picked the first point after Tanongsak’s catches the net trying to pick up Prannoy’s drop. Prannoy raced to a 5-2 lead after Tanongsak error. Tanongsak brought down the lead to 5-6 with an overhead smash. Prannoy went into the break with a 2 point lead with a clever drop. Prannoy raced to a 12-8 lead after the break after Tanongsak’s shot hit the net. Tanongsak brought down the deficit to 1 point after Prannoy’s smash hit the net. Tanongsak leveled the scores at 14 points each after Prannoy’s backhand shot hit the net. Finally, Tanongsak won the match by 15-14 in a tight encounter with a powerful smash in a 51 shot rally. Tanongsak ended Prannoy’s winning streak of 10 matches in PBL and won the match against the trump. This win helped Chennai to level the scores at 1 points each with Smash Masters.

Match-5- Mixed Doubles

The final match of the day was between Chennai’s P.V.Sindhu/B.S.Reddy and Ahmedabad’s L.C.H.Reginald/K.R.Juhl.

In the first set of the game, Chennai took the first point after Juhl’s shot went wide. Chennai then leveled the scores at 3 points each after Juhl’s shot went long. Ahmedabad raced to a 7-3 lead with Juhl’s smash. Masters went into the break with a 4 point lead. Chennai after the break reduced the deficit to 2 points after Reginald’s shot hit the net. Chennai leveled the scores at 11 points each after Juhl’s shot went long.Then the lead kept on fluctuation on either side on courtesy of some good badminton from both sides. Chennai leveled the scores at 14 points after Juhl’s shot went long.Finally, Chennai took the set by 15-14 on courtesy of Sindhu’s quick reflexes and took the set in a flash from nowhere.

In the second set, Chennai leveled the scores at 3 points each after an unforced error by Juhl. Masters then took the lead to 6-5 after Reddy’s shot went over the baseline. Chennai went into the break with a 1 point lead after Juhl’s unforced error. Masters leveled the scores at 9 points each with Reginald’s cross-court shot. Chennai raced to an 11-9 lead after Reginald’s shot hit the net. Masters brought down the lead to 13-14 after Sumeeth’s forehand shot found the net. Finally, Chennai won the set and tie by 15-13 after Juhl’s shot went wide. It was a brilliant match as the new pair in mixed doubles worked out well for the home team.
