ISL-SEASON 4-MATCH-40-FC GOA VS NORTH EAST UNITED FC
Match 40 of Indian Super League 4, held on Jan 6, saw the North East United FC play against FC Goa.
North East United defeated FC Goa in a close encounter at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. Marcinho and Seiminlen helped the hosts to break their losing streak of 4 matches.FC Goa had 61% possession than North East’s 39%.
Both teams headed into the break on level terms
North East won the toss and chose their side. The home side started on a positive note as they started to attack from the word go and was creating chances to break the deadlock. In the 6th minute, the home side got their first chance after a through ball from Marcinho found Danilo Lopes in the middle. He then fired a shot towards the goal, but it was saved superbly by Kattimani who parried it away over the crossbar. In the 10th minute, Arana squared the ball to Ferran inside the box and he tried to find the back of the net with his shot, but Rehenesh did well to save it comfortably.
In the 21st minute, North East scored their first goal of the match as well as in their home for the first time on courtesy of Marcinho. Lopes played a lovely ball to Marcinho, who then took a deft touch towards the goal which got deflected of Ahmed and hit the inside of the post before it went into the back of the net. After 5 minutes the visitors equalized the score o courtesy of Arana after Jose mistimed his kick to clear Pronay’s cross and fell into the feet of Arana. He then slotted it home with ease to equalize the score.
In the 33rd minute Marcinho’s free-kick went straight to the head of Martin Diaz, he then headed it towards the post, but it hit straight in the gloves of the keeper who made an easy save in the end. In the 43rd minute, Mandar passed the ball to Brandon on the left and he unleashed a shot, but it was well saved by Rehenesh with his finger-tip to help it over the crossbar. Finally, both teams went into the break on level terms.
North East registers their first home win
As the 2nd half started, Marcinho played a through ball to Doungel on the right, he then tried to square it to Lopes. But the keeper came ahead of him and collected it safely. In the 50th minute, Halicharan’s cross was cleared by Goa’s defense, but fell into the path of Marcinho whose shot from the spot went wide of the post.2 minutes later the hosts restored their lead after Marcinho played a through ball to Doungel who was in a 1-1 situation with the keeper. Kattimani decided to rush forward but it backfired him as Doungel played a superb chip to put the ball into the back of the net.
In the 60th minute North East were given a free-kick after Kattimani was found to have gathered a back pass inside the box. Borges played the ball to Marcinho who then blasted it towards the goal, but it was saved by the keeper comfortably. In the 66th minute, Halicharan’s pass was deflected and met Danilo in the middle who had only the keeper to beat. His shot then went wide of the post and wasted a superb opportunity to double their lead. In the 76th minute, Lanzarote played a lovely ball to Arana inside the box and he unleashed a shot, but it was saved brilliantly by Rehenesh who parried it away for a corner. After 2 minutes Seriton tried to play across inside the box and the keeper came charging towards him to clear it.But the ball took a deflection off him and fell into the path of Manvir who had an open goal in front of him. But he managed to hit the right post and made the chance go begging.Goa was not able to find the back of the net due to some incredible defending by the hosts.
In the added time all the players of the hosts were committed to defense and Goa was coming hard on them to equalize it.Finally North East edged Goa by 2-1 in a close encounter. This helped them to win their first home match of the season for North East and Goa remained winless for the 3rd consecutive time in this season.
