TIE-14-BENGALURU BLASTERS VS NORTH EASTERN WARRIORS

TIE 14 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Jan 5, saw the Bengaluru Blasters play against North Eastern Warriors.

North Eastern Warriors defeated Bengaluru Blasters by 3-2 in their maiden win of PBL. Blasters won 3 out of 5 matches in the tie, but still ended as a losing side due to their loss in trump match

Match-1-Men’s Doubles

The first match of the day was between Bengaluru’s Mathias Boe/Kim Sa Rang and North East’s Kim Gi Jung/Shin Baek Cheol.

In the first set of the game, North East picked the first point of the day with Cheol’s smash down the line. Blasters raced to a 5-3 lead after Kim’s shot went wide. North East leveled the scores at 5 points each after Boe’s shot wide. North East went into the break with a 1 point lead after Cheol’s smash down the line. North East after the break raced to an 11-8 lead after Boe’s shot went long.Blasters then leveled the scores at 11 points each with a good drop shot. Bengaluru went into a lead of 2 points after Boe’s drop shot. Finally, Blasters took the first set by 15-13 with Kim’s forehand shot.

In the second set of the game, North East raced to an early lead of 2-1 after Boe’s shot hit the net. North East then increased the lead to 5-2 after a good placement by Jung. North East headed into the break with a lead of 5 points. North East then increased the lead to a whopping 6 points after Cheol’s cross-court drop. North East then raced to a 13-7 lead with Jung’s power smash. Finally, North East won the set and forced the game into the decider by 15-7.
In the decider, North East picked the first point and raced to a 2-1 lead with Cheol’s super smash. North East then leveled the scores at 5 points each after Rang’s shot hit the net. Blasters went into the mid-break interval with a lead of 2 points. Blasters then raced to an 11-7 lead with Boe’s smash down the line. North East then brought down the deficit to 2 points after Jung’s smash. Finally, Blasters won the set and match by 15-13 in a tightly contested affair with Boe’s smash and Jung was not able to retrieve it.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The second match of the day was between Bengaluru’s Chong Wei Feng and North East’s Ajay Jayaram and it was a trump match for Bengaluru Blasters.

In the first set of the game, Feng picked the first point of the match with a smash down the line. Ajay raced to a 3-1 lead after Feng’s shot went long. Ajay headed into the break with a four-point lead after Feng’ unforced error. Ajay raced to a 6 point lead after the break with a superb cross-court shot. Feng took back the serve from Ajay after his unforced error. Finally, Ajay won the set comfortably by 15-8.

In the second set of the game, Feng leveled the scores at 1 point each after Ajay’s unforced error. Feng then raced to a 4-2 lead with a good cross-court shot. Ajay leveled the scores at 6 points each after a good smash down the line. Ajay went into the break with a 2 point lead and was in good control of the game. Feng brought down Ajay’s lead to 8-9 with a good forehand shot. Ajay increased the lead to 12-9 after Feng’s shot went wide. Feng leveled the scores at 13 points each after Ajay’s poor return.

Finally, Ajay won the match against the trump by 15-13 after Feng’s shot went long at the baseline. This win helped North East to lead Blasters by 1-0.

Match-3-Women’s Singles

The third match of the day was between Bengaluru’s Kristy Gilmour and North East’s Michelle Li and it was a trump match for North East Warriors.

In the first set of the game, Li picked up the first point after Gilmour’s unforced error. Gilmour leveled the scores at 1 point each after Li’s shot hit the net. Gilmour then raced to a 7-2 lead after Li wasn’t able to return to her drop.Li brought down the lead to 5-7 after Gilmour’s smash hit the net. Gilmour went into the break with a 3 point lead after Li’s smash went wide. Gilmour started to run away with the game as she raced to a huge 12-5 lead after Li’s shot went long.Finally, Gilmour won the set comfortably by 15-7 with a Li’s smash going wide.

In the second set of the game, Gilmour raced to a 2-0 lead after her smash was not returned by Li. Gilmour increased the lead to 6-3 after Li’s drop hit the net.Li leveled the score at 6 points each after Gilmour’s forehand unforced error. Gilmour went into the break with a 2 point lead. Gilmour after the break raced to a 12-8 lead after Li’s serve went long. Li leveled the scores at 14 points each after Gilmour’s shot hit the net. Finally, Li forced the game into the decider as she won the set by 15-14.

In the decider, Li raced to an early lead of 4-2 with a good drop shot. Gilmour leveled the scores at 4 points each with a jump smash. Gilmour went into the break with a lead of 2 points after Li’s shot went long.Li after the break played brilliantly and leveled the score at 12 points each after Gilmour’s shot went wide. Finally, Li won the set and the game by 15-13 after Gilmour’s smash hit the net. This win helped them to increase their lead to 3-0 against Blasters in the tie.

 

Match-4-Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the day was between Bengaluru’s Viktor and North East’s Axelsen and North East’s Wang Tzu Wei.

In the first set of the game, Viktor picked the first point of the match, but Wang raced to a 3-1 lead with a good cross-court shot. Viktor then leveled the scores at 4 points each with a good push down the line. Wang went into the break with a 3 point lead with a good shot. Viktor brought down Wang’s lead to 8-10 with a good smash. Wang raced to a 13-9 lead after Viktor’s unforced error. Finally, Wang won the set by 15-9 after Axelsen’s shot hit the net.

In the second set, Viktor raced to an early lead of 2-1 after Wang’s shot went long.Wang then leveled the scores at 4 points each after Viktor’s smash hit the net. Wang then headed into the break with a slender lead of 2 points after Viktor’s shot went wide. Viktor after the break brought down the deficit to 1 point after Wang’s smash hit the net. Viktor got the lead after a cross-court shot and made a brilliant comeback into the game. Finally, Viktor won the set by 15-13 and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Viktor picked up the first point with a powerful smash. Viktor raced to a 4-2 lead with a good forehand shot. Wang took the lead for the first time in the set after Viktor failed to take Wang’s forehand shot. Wang headed into the break with a lead for the 3rd time in this encounter. Viktor brought down the lead to 9-10 after Wang’s shot went long. Viktor then leveled the scores at 11 points each with a cross-court smash. Wang leveled the scores at 14 points each after Viktor’s shot went wide. Finally, Viktor won the match by 15-14 in a close encounter and this win helped Bengaluru to get their first point on board.

Match-5- Mixed Doubles

The final match of the day was between Bengaluru’s Manu Attri/Sikki Reddy and North East’s Shin Baek Cheol/Prajakta Sawant.

In the first set of the game, North Eats took the first point after Manu’s shot hit the net. Blasters raced to a 3-1 lead after Sikki’s cross-court shot. North East took the lead to 5-4 with Cheol’s Cross-court smash. North East went into the break after Manu’s shot went long at the baseline. Blasters leveled the scores at 9 points each after Sikki’s good placement. Blasters brought down the lead to 11-13 after Prajakta’s unforced error. Finally North East won the first set by 15-12

In the second set of the game, Bengaluru raced to an early lead of 4-0 after Manu’s smash. North East brought down the lead to 4-5 with Cheol’s forehand shot. Bengaluru went into the break with a lead of 3 points after Prajakta’s shot hit the net. Bengaluru raced to an 11-6 lead on courtesy of Manu’s superb shot. Finally, Blasters won the set by 15-8 with a forehand shot and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Bengaluru picked the first point after Sikki’s series of smashes. Blasters raced to a whopping 5-0 lead after Prajakta’s unforced error. North East picked their first point of the set after Sikki’s shot went long.North East brought down the lead to 5-6 after Manu’s shot went wide. Bengaluru went into the break with a slender lead. Blasters got the better of North East in a 33 shot rally after Manu closed the point with a good shot. Finally, Blasters won the match by 15-9 after Prajakta’s shot went wide. This win helped them to narrow down the deficit to 1 point in the tie.
