ISL-SEASON 4-MATCH-38-KERALA BLASTERS FC VS FC PUNE CITY
Match 38 of Indian Super League 4, held on Jan 4, saw the Kerala Blasters FC play against FC Pune City.
Kerala Blasters held FC Pune City by 1-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Marcelo’s goal in the first half was canceled out by Mark Sifneos in the 2nd half with season’s 100th goal. Kerala Blasters FC had 54% possession then Pune’s 46%.
Pune head into the break with a 1 goal advantage
FC Pune City won the toss and chose their side. Pune started the game on a positive note as they went into the offensive mode without wasting much time. In the 9th minute Alfaro controlled the ball inside the box on the right and fired a shot by turning, but the keeper made a decent save by diving low. In the 15th minute Lucca cut in from the left and unleashed a shot, but Roy made an absolute blunder by not getting the hold of the ball. To his delight, the ball was cleared by Lalruatthara.
In the 22nd minute, Lucca fired a shot from Marcelo’s free-kick towards the post from a long distance, but the keeper saved it comfortably and denied a goal for the visitors. In the 30th minute Sifneos got to the end of Jackichand’s cross and directed it towards the goal with his head, but it was wide off the post.3 minutes later Pune broke the deadlock after Ashique headed the ball to Marcelo on the right inside the box. He then calmly slotted it past the keeper inside the far post. In the 41st minute, Ashique stole a ball from Lalruatthara after he took a lot of time to clear the ball. Ashique squared it to Alfaro in the middle, he then fired a shot towards the goal, but the keeper collected it safely.
In the 44th minute, Hume got to one end of Wes Brown’s header and he blasted a volleyed shot towards the goal, but the keeper made a good save. In the end, it was called an offside by the linesman. Pune went into the break with a scoreline of a 1-0 lead.

As the 2nd half started, Pune started to keep the ball on their side as they didn’t wasn’t to give the hosts any chances. In the 58th minute, the hosts earned a free-kick after a handball from Ashique. Pekuson took the free-kick and passed to Jackichand’s feet and he tried to drill it in the bottom far corner, but it went wide. In the 66th minute, Marcelo played a short pass to Ashique and he had good chance to shoot on goal or pass, instead, he played it in the center and it got cleared in the end.
In the 73rd minute, Sifneos scored the season’s 100th goal after Kizito passed a ball to Pekuson after seeing him making a brilliant run on the left and Pekuson played it to Sifneos feet. He then calmly slotted it in the bottom left corner past the keeper to score an equalizer. After the goal, the hosts started to initiate attacks and built pressure among the Pune Players.
In the 85th minute, Hume took the free-kick after Jewel Raja’s foul. He fired a shot towards the goal from outside the box, but the keeper saved it easily as the shot was not hit well. At the stroke of end time Pekuson got the ball on the left and fired a shot and it hit Golu’s face and deflected back towards him. He then tried to drill it in the far corner, but it hit the upright. Finally, the match ended in a draw and this helped Pune to move to the top of the table on courtesy of Goal difference, on the other hand, Kerala remained at 8th position.
