TIE-9-DELHI DASHERS VS HYDERABAD HUNTERS

TIE 9 of Premier Badminton League 3, held on Dec 31, saw the Delhi Dashers play against Hyderabad Hunters.

In a brilliant win after two consecutive losses, Delhi Dashers trounced Hyderabad Hunters by 5-0. Hunters managed to win only one game out of five in the tie.

Match-1-Men’s Doubles

The first match of the Tie was between Dasher’s V.Ivanov/I.Sozonov and Hunter’s M. Kido/Y.Y.Seong.

In the first set of the game, Delhi picked up the first point, on the other hand, Hunters opened their account with Kido’s grunting smash. Hunters leveled the scores at 4 points each after an error from Sozonov. Delhi went into the break with an 8-5 lead after Ivanov’s powerful smash in the middle. After the break, the Russian pair took the set easily by 15-10 after Kido’s shot went long.

In the 2nd set of the game, Delhi picked up the first point after some good defensive play from the Russian pair. The Russian pair proved to be too powerful for Hunter’s players. Delhi once again headed into the break with a 3 point lead after Seong hit the net. Hunters reduced the deficit to 2 points and they were making Delhi Players move around the court and forced them to make errors. But Delhi raced to a 13-11 lead after Ivanov’s powerful smash. Finally, Delhi won the set, as well as the game by 15-11 after Kido’s shot, was called out. Delhi lead Hunters by 1-0 in the tie.

Match-2-Men’s Singles

The Second match of the Tie was between Dasher’s W.W.K.Vincent and Hunter’s L.H.Il and it was a trump match for Hyderabad.

In the first set of the game, Vincent picked the first point of the set after Lee’s shot went long, on the other hand, Lee got his first after his shot was perfectly placed down the line. Vincent raced to a 5-1 lead with his cross-court smash in a 25 shot rally. Lee then leveled the scores at 6 points each with a powerful smash and headed into the break with a 2 point lead after an unforced error from Vincent. Lee then raced to a 10-7 lead after Vincent shot went long in a 29 shot rally. Vincent then reduced the deficit to 1 point after a good offensive play by him. But Lee won the set by 15-13 after Vincent’s shot went wide.

In the 2nd set of the game, Vincent raced to a 4-2 lead after Lee’s smash found the net, but he reduced the deficit to 1 point after Vincent’s shot went long.Vincent headed into the break with a 3 point lead after his shot went down the line. After the break, Lee was trailing Vincent by 9-10 with his forehand shot down the line. Vincent, however, won the set and forced the game into the decider with a powerful smash at Lee 15-11.

In the decider, Vincent picked up his point after Lee’s shot went long. Vincent then took 6 points on a trot after a string of unforced errors from Lee and headed into the break with a big lead of 5 points with a powerful smash. After the break, Vincent started to run away with the game with some superb defensive play and smashes. Vincent won the set as well as the game by 15-4 after an error from Lee. This is Vincent’s first win in PBL 3 and defeated Lee in trump match and hunters go into the negative point in the tie.

Match-3-Women’s Singles

The Third match of the Tie was between Dasher’s S.J.Hyun and Hunter’s C.Marin.

In the first set of the game, Hyun scored the first point with a forehand shot.Hyun raced to a7-5 lead with a 373 Kmph smash and headed into the break with a 2 point lead after Marin’s shot went wide. But after the break, Marin made a stunning comeback with some powerful smashes and forced Hyun to make some errors. Marin went into the lead with a super smash down the line. Finally, Marin took the set by 15-10 after Marin’s shot trickled over the net.

In the 2nd set of the game due to Hyun’s errors, Marin started to run away with the game and Marin headed into the break with a 5 point lead after Hyun’s shot went wide. Hyun reduced the deficit to 2 points after the break after Marin’s shot didn’t get past the net. Marin then raced to a 14-10 lead with a powerful cross-court smash in a 31 shot rally. Finally, Marin won the set as well as the game by 15-12 with a superb cross-court smash. Hyderabad got their first point of the tie with this win.

Match-4-Men’s Singles

The fourth match of the Tie was between Dasher’s T. Houwei and Hunter’s B.S.Praneeth and it was a trump match for Delhi.

In the first set of the game, Tian picked his first point after Praneeth failed to retrieve his shot. Praneeth then leveled the scores at 3 points each with a smash in a 31 shot rally. Praneeth scored his 4th point with a superb cross-court drop in a 34 shot rally. Praneeth then headed into the break with a 4 point lead on courtesy of some defensive play. After the break, Tian leveled the scores at 12 points each after Praneeth’s smash went wide. After this, the lead kept fluctuating and reached sudden death. But Tian edged Praneeth in the first set by 15-14.

In the 2nd set, Praneeth leveled the set with 3 points each with a ferocious cross-court smash. Praneeth then went into the break with a 2 point lead. After the break, Tian raced to a 14-10 lead after Sai’s shot went long. But in the end, Praneeth scored 5 points on a trot and forced the game into the decider.

In the decider, Tian got better off Praneeth in a 24 shot rally. Praneeth then scored his first point in the decider with a cross-court drop, Tian went into the break with a 4 point lead after Praneeth missed his Smash. Tian then raced to whopping 12-4 lead after Praneeth hit the net. However, Praneeth made a good comeback in the game and was trailing Tian by 10-13 after he hit straight to Tian. Finally, Tian won his trump match by 15-10 after Praneeth’s shot went wide. Delhi lead Hunters by 4-0 in the tie.

Match-5- Mixed Doubles

The final match of the Tie was between Dasher’s A. Ponnappa/V.Ivanov and Hunter’s P.Z.Bernadeth/S. Rankireddy.

In the first set of the game, Delhi picked their first point after Pia’s shot hit the net. Hunters got their first point on courtesy of Satwik’s power smash. Delhi went into the break with a 3 point lead after Pia’s return found the net. Delhi then raced to a 13- 8 lead after Ivanov’s smash. Hunters made a good comeback to the game and reduced the deficit to 3 points after Reddy’s smash went straight to Ashwini. Finally, Delhi took the set by 15-11 after Reddy’s shot hit the net.

In the 2nd set of the game, Delhi raced to a 3-0 lead with a 403 Kmph smash from Ivanov. Hunters took the lead for the first time in the set with Reddy’s smash and both the teams were dealing with smashes. But Hunters went into the break with a slender lead after Ashwini wasn’t able to respond to Reddy’s smash. After the break, the lead kept on fluctuating on either side on courtesy of some good play by both the teams. Finally, Delhi won the set as well as the game by 15-11 after Ashwini’s smash hit straight to Pia. With this win, Delhi whitewashed Hunters completely.
