ISL-SEASON 4-MATCH-36-KERALA BLASTERS FC VS BENGALURU FC
Match 36 of Indian Super League 4, held on Dec 31, saw the Kerala Blasters FC play against Bengaluru FC
Bengaluru FC handed Kerala Blasters FC their first home defeat in this season after they defeated the hosts by 3-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Miku’s last-minute goal and Sunil’s penalty shot gave the visitors a much-needed win and Pekuson scored a consolation goal in the last minute of the added time. Bengaluru FC had 52% possession than Kerala’s 48%.
Bengaluru FC won the toss and chose their side. In the 4th minute, Edu Garcia took the free-Kick and swung the ball inside the box which found Miku. He then headed it towards the keeper, who saved it easily in the end. Both the teams started to play in offensive mode, but the visitors were keeping the possession for the most part of the time and made a good start to the game. In the 10th minute, Pekuson received the ball from Hanghal and squared it to Sifneos in the middle. He then unleashed a shot with his left foot, but it went past the right post as the shot didn’t have enough power.
In the 27th minute, Brown played a superb diagonal ball to Sifneos in the middle of the box. He unleashed a shot but his hand came in the way and the chance went begging. In the 35th minute Chhetri ran from the middle and unleashed a powerful shot towards the goal post, but the Kerala Custodian punched it away for a corner. Edu Garcia’s corner found Erik Paartalu at the far post. He then headed it to the post with less power and in the end, the keeper made a good save.
In the 40th minute, Edu Garcia fired a shot towards the Keeper who thwarted it easily.3 minutes later Edu Garcia unleashed a shot towards the top right corner, but Roy made a brilliant save to deny a goal for the visitors. Finally, both teams headed into the break goalless.
Bengaluru dominated the 2nd half with 3 goals
As the 2nd half started, in the 52nd minute Khabra played a superb cross in the middle which found Chhetri. He then headed it towards the post, but Roy reacted to it quickly and made a stunning save in the end. In the 59th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty after the referee saw Sandesh Jhingan handled the ball before it came to the path of Garcia and Chhetri took the penalty kick. He scored from the spot by slotting it in the bottom right corner and gave his team a 1-0 lead.
In the 72nd minute, Ian Hume took the free-kick and he tried to curl the ball inside the bottom left corner, but it missed the target by inches. In the 88th minute, George unleashed a shot across the keeper from inside the box, but it went wide off the post. The visitors scored their 2nd goal after Miku made a solo run from the middle after he received the ball from Garcia. He found the back of the net after he placed the shot past the keeper easily. In the next minute, Miku scored his 2nd Subhasish nutmegged Jhingan and passed the ball to Miku. He then slotted the ball towards the post with his right foot.
Kerala finally got a consolation goal at the last minute of added time after Pekuson managed to get past Bengaluru’s defense and slotted the ball past Gurpreet. Finally, Bengaluru defeated Kerala by 3-1 and moved to the 3rd spot in the table and this was Kerala’s first home defeat.
