ISL-SEASON 4-MATCH-17-DELHI DYNAMOS FC VS JAMSHEDPUR FC
Match 17 of Indian Super League 4, held on Dec 6, saw the Delhi Dynamos FC play against Jamshedpur FC.
Jamshedpur FC finally picked up their maiden victory in ISL after defeating Delhi Dynamos by 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Izu Azuka scored the first goal for Jamshedpur in this season and they maintained 4th consecutive clean sheet. They are the only team who haven’t conceded a single goal in this season.
Goalless first half
Jamshedpur FC won the toss and chose their side. Delhi started the game by passing a series of simple passes to keep the possession. In the 3rd minute, Delhi got a free-kick in a dangerous area after a successful challenge from Chhangte. Paulinho Dias took the free-kick, but it was comfortably saved by Subrata Paul. After 3 minutes, Jamshedpur earned a corner and it was taken by Bikash Jairu, which was taken by Memo and he headed it towards near post. But the ball went wide off the post.
Both the teams made a decent start to the game, but Delhi kept the ball for the most part of the time. In the 13th minute, Delhi’s goal was called an offside by the referee after Dias’ free-kick was comfortably taken by Kal Uche, who slotted the ball into the back of the net. In the 21st minute, Memo passed a through ball to Jairu on the left and Azuka managed to get to the end of it before Delhi defense came towards it. Azuka unleashed a shot, but it went wide of the near post. Both teams had a good number of chances to score it, but all were half chances and no team were able to penetrate the opposition defense. Finally, both teams went into the break goalless.
Delhi was not able to score any goal, though they had 60% possession, while Jamshedpur blew away the one good chance they had.
Jamshedpur registers first win in Hero ISL.
As the 2nd half started, Azuka got the ball and went past Delhi’s defense and passed the ball to Memo, who immediately headed the ball towards the target. However, Albino was in a good position to make a comfortable save. 2 minutes later, Jairu’s corner saw Andre Bikey heading the ball towards the target, but Gomes once again came with a save. In the 57th minute, Jamshedpur got a golden opportunity to score their first goal in this season after being awarded penalty for Pratik’s foul inside the box on Azuka for bringing him down. Bikey took the penalty and unleashed a shot towards the bottom left corner with less power, and the keeper makes an easy save to keep the scoreline nil. In the 61st minute, Izu Azuka scored the first goal for the visitors in Hero ISL and finally, the wait for 1st goal was over for them.
Mehtab Hossain’s free-kick perfectly met Izu in the middle of the box, who then easily headed the ball towards the post which beat the keeper comfortably. After 3 minutes Jamshedpur had a chance to double their lead after Azuka and Goncalves were on 2 on 1 situation against Pratik and Goncalves got the ball and fired the ball towards the near post. But it was off target and they missed a golden opportunity to double the lead. In the 86th minute, Albino was substituted with Sukhdev Patil due to his injury in the right ankle after Belfort hit him in the right hand. In the added time the hosts tried to score an equalizer after David dribbled the ball past Jamshedpur’s defense and unleashed a shot. However, Paul dived fully towards his left to make a good save. Finally, the referee blew the whistle and Jamshedpur celebrated their first win and goal of the tournament, on the other hand, Delhi suffered their 3rd consecutive defeat on a trot.
