Match 16 of Indian Super League 4, held on Dec 3, saw the Mumbai City FC play against Kerala Blasters FC.

Kerala Blasters were involved in another draw in this season for the 3rd time continuously when they drew with Mumbai City FC by 1-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi. Kerala finally scored their 1st goal of this season. Kerala had 52% possession than Mumbai’s 48%.

Kerala goes into the break with a 1-0 lead

Mumbai City FC won the toss and chose their side. In the 4th minute, Courage Pekuson came up with the first shot of the game but it went wide off post. 1 minute later, Sandesh Jhingan took a shot inside the box after a corner kick came near him, which was superbly blocked by Lucian Goian as the ball was on target. In the 14th minute, Rino Anto delivered a superb cross into the middle and Mark Sifneos side-footed the ball into the back of the net. This was Kerala’s first goal of the season.

7 minutes later Achille Emana made a cross to Balwant who was running to get past it, but Sandesh made a good clearance to stop Mumbai from scoring an equalizer. In the 27th minute, Jackichand found CK Vineeth with a good cross and the latter took a powerful shot towards the right corner, but in the end, Arminder Singh made a superb save and stopped Kerala from scoring their 2nd goal. In the 36th minute, Abinash delivered a superb cross into the box and Rafa got to end of it well time header, which was finally saved comfortably by Paul Rachubka. 5 minutes later, Dimitar Berbatov gave a lofted ball to Jackichand. He collected it nicely, but he packed too much power and the ball flew above the post. Berbatov’s header was saved by the keeper comfortably at the stroke of halftime. Kerala went on the break with a 1-0 lead.

Balwant’s equalizer helped both teams to share points

As the 2nd half started, CK Vineeth took the ball from Pekuson and fired the ball towards goal but it went over the post. Mumbai was playing nicely to score an equalizer but was not able to get the breakthrough as they were making some sloppy passes. In the 57th minute, Emana came up with a superb pass to Everton, who attempted a shot. Alas,  it took a slight deflection off the keeper’s leg and hit the pole. In the 73rd minute, Balwant Singh had a good chance to send a cross, but he took the shot himself and the ball sailed into the stands. After 4 minutes Mumbai scored an equalizer after Emana delivered the ball to Santos from the right flank and Santos passed the ball towards near post where Balwant fired the ball past the keeper. After this Mumbai started to play more attacking but were stopped by Paul and Kerala’s strong defense.7 minutes later, Davinder drilled a cross into the middle and Santos made a pass to Balwant. However, Balwant was not able to keep his shot on target.CK Vineeth was given a red card in the 89th minute after he got booked by the referee after his tussle with Balwant. In the end, both teams shared equal points from the game.
