ISL-SEASON 4-MATCH-11-FC PUNE CITY VS MUMBAI CITY FC
Match 11 of Indian Super League 4, held on Nov 29 ,saw the FC Pune City play against Mumbai City FC.
FC Pune City defeated Mumbai City by 2-1 at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune, by scoring a goal in the added time, and grabbed 3 points from the game. FC Pune city had 57% possession, compared to Mumbai’s 43%.
The Maharashtra Derby – Mumbai leads first half with 1 goal
Mumbai won the toss and chose their side and they started to attack straight away. Pune defenders had difficulty in dealing with Emana and Balwant Singh. Mumbaikars had the ball for the first ten minutes, during which they attempted multiple goals, keeping the Pune defense on their toes. In the 12th minute, Mumbai got their first chance through Gerson Vieira after he received the ball from Balwant and fired towards the post. But Kamaljit Singh came up with a good save by stretching his arm to keep the scoreline 0-0. After 3 minutes Balwant came from the left and unleashed a shot into the bottom corner to give Mumbai an ideal start to the game. In the 22nd minute, Pune’s Carlos got a chance and took a shot straight away, only to be saved by Amrinder, and resulting in a corner for Mumbai.
After 3 minutes, Pune got a free-kick, which Pereira took and sent the ball to Gurtej in the penalty area. Alas a weak header from Gurtej was easily claimed by Amrinder. After taking the lead, Mumbai went on the backfoot, as the hosts were now attacking. However, Pune was not using the opportunity well as they made some sloppy passes and poor shots which prevented them from scoring an equalizer. Mumbai got a free-kick in the 44th minute and Emana looped the ball deep into the box, which was effortlessly saved by the Stallions Keeper. In the penultimate minute of the first half, Marcelinho took the free-kick from outside the box and unleashed a shot on target, but Amrinder once again came to Mumbai’s rescue by saving it easily. That was the last piece of action from the half and Mumbai went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Pune seizes a thriller with twin goals
Pune started the second half on a high note by making more daring chances. Marcelo’s free-kick saw Alfaro running inside the box, although his header was easily punched out by Amrinder. In the 60th minute, Sehnaj Singh’s shot went on the roof of the goal. Seeing Pune’s strong attack, Mumbai went on the defensive, bringing in Wadoo instead of Sanju. In the 72nd minute, Pune got a penalty after Raju Gaikwad brought Carlos down inside the box. Alfaro took the penalty and he scored it comfortably be sending the keeper in the wrong way to level the score.
In the 83rd minute substitute, Lucca unleashed a pile driver from outside the box, but Amrinder made a good save as the ball came straight towards him. In the last 5 minute, both teams went for the kill and made the game more interesting for the viewers in the end. In the 88th minute, Gerson Vieira’s shot saw the keeper beaten inside the bar, but Fanai cleared the ball and saved his team from trouble. In the added time, Pune scored another goal after Lucca passed the ball to Carlos and he was one on one with the keeper. But he unselfishly passes the ball to his teammate Alfaro, who in the end slotted the ball into an empty net and earned 3 points from the game in dying moments.
Finally, Pune won the first Maharashtra derby comfortably by 2-1.
