69-year old Saraswathi Rao is taking the social media by the storm. A former Karnataka state champion and National Rank – 2 holder, Mrs Rao was a force to be reckoned in Table Tennis, a few decades ago. And she still is. She may look old, but is quite young at heart. In fact, a video of her playing TT posted on Facebook on Tuesday has raked up around 2.3 million views and 60,000 shares. Another TT player has even dedicated a poem to her indomitable spirit and skill!

The former Table Tennis player seemed to be in great form as she played top spins and smashes with élan. Here’s the widely viral video which has since been picked by large media houses such as Times of India and The Deccan Herald.

In a country where Cricket is a religion, it is difficult for other sports to make an impact. To see such massive support for the video is indeed heartening.

Table Tennis in India

Table Tennis or Ping Pong is gradually gaining visibility in India. We have produced various international level players, such as Achanta Sharath Kamal, Kamlesh Mehta, Indu Puri and Chetan Baboor. Along with these veterans, there are quite a few youngsters making waves as well, such as Soumyajit Ghosh, Manika Batra, Mouma Das, etc.

India also recently hosted the Ultimate Table Tennis league event, wherein domestic and international players congregated for their love of ping pong. Looks like the tide is slowly turning for TT and good days are on the way.

We hope this video motivates and inspires young, budding players to never give up and keep playing, for the spirit of the game lives forever in our hearts.
