Qualifier 1 of Pro Kabaddi League season 5, held on Oct 24, saw the Gujarat FortuneGiants play against Bengal Warriors.
Gujarat off to a good start
Gujarat won the toss and chose their side on mat in the First Qualifier of the playoffs. Rakesh Narwal scored the first point of the game for Gujarat, while Deepak scored the first point for Bengal in the first do-or-die raid of the game. At the end of the 10th minute, Gujarat had a slight edge over Bengal with 7-6 lead in a rather low scoring phase. Gujarat then went onto increase their lead with the help of Mahendra Rajput to take 11-6 lead in the 14th minute. But a super tackle on Sachin in the next minute helped Bengal to reduce the deficit to 2 points. The half ended with Deepak Narwal’s unsuccessful raid. Gujarat went into break with 13-10 lead.
Gujarat books a spot in the Finals
In the second half, Gujarat inflicted their first all-out on Bengal in the 22nd minute to take 18-10 lead. Bengal scored the first point of the 2nd half in the 26th minute after super tackling Sachin off the mat. A 2 point raid by Rajput and some good raiding by Sachin helped Gujarat to inflict another all-out on Bengal to take 29-14 lead in the 31st minute. Bengal then tried to comeback in the game, but they were not able to past Gujarat’s robust defence. Gujarat in the last 10 minutes of the game started to run down the clock. Gujarat inflicted their 3rd all-out on Bengal in the 36th minute and extended their lead to 38-16.Gujarat finally defeated Bengal comfortably by 42-17 and will be playing the winner of Qualifier 2 in Finals. Sachin top scored in the game with 9 points, who was well supported by Rajput’s 8 points.
