Sports Movies To Watch Out For in 2017

Everybody loves sports movies. They always provide great entertainment and all of us leave the theatres with our chests swollen, believing that even we achieved the spectacular feat the hero of the movie achieved in its closing moments.

There are a lot of promising movies to come out this year, including a biopic of the boxer who inspired the famous Rocky Balboa series, a movie based on the legendary fight between Bruce Lee and a Chinese martial artist and the stories of the two arguably greatest matches in tennis history. Here is a list of sports movies to watch out for in 2017:

This movie captures the epic tennis match that took place in 1973 between Bobby Riggs and the World’s best female player of the time, Billie Jean King. It was dubbed the ‘Battle of the Sexes’, as the battle took place as much on the court as off the court, with Billie Jean fighting not just for victory but for gender equality as well.

Another legendary tennis match, this Wimbledon final saw 4 times Wimbledon winner Bjorn Borg and the feisty American John McEnroe go against each other. It was a perfect battle of fire and ice and was considered one of the greatest matches of tennis ever played. This movie showcases the build up to this match and a glimpse of how these two players were off the court.

Chuck

Chuck is a much-needed biopic for the person who inspired the Academy Award nominated series of Rocky, Chuck Wepner. Chuck was a heavyweight boxer who fought against Muhammad Ali in front of a young Sylvester Stallone, who took inspiration to write the screenplay of Rocky from Chuck knocking down Ali in the 9th round before eventually being defeated.

Before Bruce Lee was an international movie star, he ran a Kung Fu dojo in the USA, where he taught the locals. The Martial Art Council from China took issue with him teaching Kung Fu to white people and sent over a Martial Artist, Wong Jack Man to stop Lee. What ensued was the greatest Kung Fu fights of all time, a fight which led Lee to adopt his signature style seen in his movies. This movie is about the birth of this dragon.

All of these movies promise to entertain and are built towards a crescendo which will reach its zenith at the end of the movie when the penultimate match/battle will take place. So tighten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!
