Kush Kumar advances in Victorian Open
Indian Squash player Kush Kumar defeated second seed Nasir Iqbal in the first round of the US$ 15,000 Victoria Open held in Melbourne. Kush showed his skills and fighting qualities to defeat the experienced Pakistan’s No.1 player Iqbal. Kush secured the win with a score of 12-10, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7.
Kumar enters the second round where he faces New Zealand’s Kashif Shuja. Kashif beat Switzerland’s Manuel Wanner 5-11, 11-8, 11-13, 13-11, 11-3 in the first round.
Earlier this week, Kumar won his first PSA title at the Tasmanian Open defeating England’s Jamie Haycocks in the finals.
“This was the first time I played Nasir Iqbal, Pakistan’s No.1 and it was a good win for me and a tough match,” said Kumar.
Third seeded Mahesh Mangaonkar defeated wild card entrant Thomas Calvert with a score of 11-5, 11-6, 11-5.
